Hey /g/, I'm going to university soon and I'm going to live in their residence. However, my internet connection will be limited to 30 GB per month. What are the efficient way to download stuff without busting my limit?

By not downloading so much stuff that you're only going to use once & delete.

by not downloading anything

Save your torrents for home. Bam, now you're good.

I'm not even downloading that much, I'm around 60-70 GB of internet usage per month, 30 is just too low
>>31413529
I don't want to wait a month to download something
>>

It's a do it or don't thing.
There isn't any technology that will save you unless you want to drive home several times a month to check up on your torrents.

By those numbers, it'd be a two week wait at the most. Use normally until things get close, then make a list. If it's not worth <two weeks, it's not worth downloading.

Remember, it's not 'DON'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING EVER', just don't download more than 30GB.

Not even leeching from public wifi?
>>
>>31413699
It's not about not downloading, streaming video like youtube are bandwidth hungry

You could probably find a coffee shop close by that offers free wifi. It would be slow but you could download there and just surf at your residence.

You don't have a choice, really. You can't 'mask' downloads and there arn't really efficient ways to download unless you make sure torrents are RAR'ed and what not.

Sucks man.

you hack your dorm-mates
steal their bandwith
the university will have hot spots as well
you'll need to get creative

it doesn't have to be the one i have. just look up one that are available in canada or something

Wow, 30 GB per month? What the fuck?

Before I accepted my offer of admission to university, I asked if they had any bandwidth limits. Everyone said no, except one fucking school with a 500 MB per day limit. This was back in 2003. I was like, "Are they fucking serious?"

Do you HAVE to live in their residence? I mean, that's just fucking ridiculous. What if you're studying comp sci? A typical Arch "pacman -Syu" can easily eat 4 GB.

Yes I'm studying computer science.
The internet part is the only thing holding me down, the rest seems nice

However, I don't know if they're using a different network for the residences and for the school. Visual Studio 2012 alone would take half of my bandwidth for a month.
