I never used that shit

Man do I miss how clean and simple everything looked now. Right now I'm looking at a Windows 7 desktop with gigantic buttons with no text on it, glossy as fuck, on a glossy screen, while looking at a browser that doesn't care about memory management because people are using 16 gigs of RAM these days, on a cheap plastic keyboard staring at a piss poor quality LCD display

Not much has changed

What would yo recommend for that Mac OS9 feel
>>
>>32134483
This is the thing that drives us to tiling WMs and terminal applications.
>>
>>32134575
I liked tiling but I gave up using it because it felt overly basic to me. It's like giving me a blank desk, I got bored with it

I always liked the fonts and the simplicity of an old Mac OS9 desktop or an old Unix window manager

Maybe i should find one to fuck around with

I wish I could get a nice desktop that isn't tiling and that isn't nostalgiafagging.
>>
>>32134483
Why not use classic theme on Windows 7?
>>
>>32134483
Use KDE4 if you want a nice, clean, non-glossy feel that looks like it was designed by professionals.

Your only other option is to be an elitist tiling window manager user on GNU/Linux

I don't know what the hell happened to design these days.

It is non-trivial to make a 12 years old source integrate with more recent libraries. And from the wiki there are still unresolved issues.

When is /v/ going to fuck off so someone can criticize something without some edgy faggot dismissing it as "whining"? Not everyone can port an entire window manager to a different OS.

CDE already runs on most 4BSD-derived unices, so FreeBSD should be pretty simple to get right.
>>
>>32134574
Window Maker is like NeXTStep without the global-menu twaddle. GNUStep is the full desktop environment based on it - GNUStep applications are even source-compatible with Cocoa on OS X iirc.

If you were on dialup you generally just installed SPs and ordered them from Microsoft on CD.

Kids, that wasn't early internet.

MacOS 7.x, Windows 3.11, NT3.5. Those were systems people were using on the early internet. With NetScape 2.x on mac, you FINALLY had javascript for the first time, only to find that half the sites using it used ie specific javascript.

Netscape had a high quality dithered B&W mode you could use on XTerms, and it just few compared to using it on a PC. Mosaic was still used, if you didn't have the memory for netscape. Gopher was still viable, and people used cuseeme for sexy time with grayscale serial & parallel port cameras.
>>
>tfw I never had to use dialup

Tried it at a friend's house and it was horrible. I can't even fathom being stuck on it, how the fuck did you people live with it?

When the web was designed around dialup, it wasn't that bad. It sucked, but it wasn't that bad.

Now that webpages are designed for broadband, being on dialup is horrendously painful.

You do realize people who grew up with nothing but Windows XP are now adults, right?

I'm going to reminisce about walking up hill both ways to school now, and stroke my gray beard the entire time I do it.

XP & MacOS9 were still not early internet though.

>How am I the only one in his 30s who isn't an elitist retard?
It's not elitism, it's pointing out that old isn't necessarily early.

Things that happened durring Constantine's reign are old, but they still aren't early roman.
