I've just recently been diagnosed with astigmatism in both of my eyes, and now I have to wear glasses. Fuck.

My brothers with /g/lasses, do your glasses affect reading the screen other than positively, and does it hamper any possible gameplay?

    Right eye astigmatism here.

    Glare reduction or contacts.

Either that, or lose more of your vision.

I hate my glasses, most people say I look better with them but they just get in the way, constantly, I'm in fabrication and engineering, they always get scratched or broken or get in the way when I'm wearing a welding helmet or they slip off or fall off or just get in the way in general.

I can't even wear closed ear headphones as they push the frames into my head and it actually gets unbearable over times, sucks for long gaming sessions.

Nearsighted fag here. Anything beyond a foot of where I'm sitting/standing is a blur to me, unless it's big, such as a trash can, monitor, big text, etc.

My glasses don't affect me in the slightest for browsing or reading the screen, don't hamper gameplay. Just remember to wash em occasionally (2-3 times a week) or they get a bit blurry from the dirt, which actually makes a small difference when trying to read details.

    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:29 No.7288819
    20/600 and 20/700 without correction + astigmatism.

Doesn't affect gameplay unless you also need bifocals/progressives, in which case the non-reading part(s) aren't big enough if you sit your ass right in front of the screen. Or anywhere in a real IMAX theater.
    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:31 No.7288827
I bought my glasses online and got a specialty anti-radiation coating that really helps ease eye fatigue from reading stuff or working for a long time in front of a monitor.
    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:32 No.7288831
I don't have astigmatism, but my glasses-wearing has done nothing but help my vision. That should come as no surprise, as that's what they're designed to do.

It's only bad with far away pixels.

Like, distance from the screen. If I have my computer running through my 52 inch television, yeah. I've gotta squint a little to see each individual pixel. It sucks. Great for games, though.

But on a desk monitor? Glasses are fine. The only gripe I have is cleaning them.

Also, contacts are an option. Makes everything crystal clear, you've just gotta wear them lightly for the first couple weeks. Then you can keep them on all day, and they even sell some that can stay in your eyes for an entire month without taking them out.

    Look into it.

Yeah, but contacts are generally god tier regardless.

I'm nearsighted, of course, so I'm not sure how contacts for astigmatism people work but I figure they're the same.

I've read online that there are special contacts for astigmatism, but this is irrelevant.

Also, any homebrew tips on reducing the glare from your eyes in the lens? its starting to annoy me quite a bit.
    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:41 No.7288895
I have those same glasses op, but I never wear them because my vision is just fine even though I have one astimatism in one eye and loss of vision in the other eye, but I never noticed a difference other than everything was sharper on the screen, and i didn't like that very much for some reason.

    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:49 No.7288971
I could be wrong, but I believe most forms of astigmatism can be fixed permanently through eye surgery, if the concept of having your eyes sliced & diced and then put back together by a person whom you do not know doesn't terrify you entirely.
    >> Anonymous 12/23/09(Wed)00:50 No.7288977
I have astigmatism on my left eye. I think I had 20/23 vision, which isn't bad enough to wear glasses so I don't know why I was suggested them. In High School, I tossed them out immediately when I got them. I don't know about my eyesight now. It seems fine.

Been using Crizal lenses for several years. They smudge fairly easily (despite the claims) but I have no problems with driving at night, using a computer all day, etc. (Normally you might see halos or rings/streaks around sources of light.)

Mind you, my vision is probably fairly close to >>7288819. I can't see shit without glasses so having a nice pair is very important for me. If it's just for occasional use you might not need this.

Anyone that sells Crizal should have a sample that you could check out to compare the differences.
