I know you don't have much space but you should consider mentioning the 1GB 4870 and the GTX 260 216, just to make sure people don't buy the crappier versions. Also where can you even get a 4730 for $50? It goes for $80 right now on ncixus which is the price of a 9600GT or a more expensive 4670.

According to the PSU calculator 380W would be more than enough for a Phenom 720 and HD4770.

But I'm assuming that's not GAYMANS enough for you?

I'm hoping people aren't stupid enough to get the 512MB version or the shitty 260. Though if you're at 1680x1050 or lower it doesn't really matter too much as far as VRAM goes. Which online stores actually sell the 4730?

    >>4816849

The 4770 is sort of unique in its category for power consumption. This is peak 3D BTW, most of the time you videocard will never take this much power. Yuo can run a 9800GT, 4770 or 4850 on a 380w, but I wouldn't since I'd rather have a PSU that will last and that PSU degradation will not adversely effect.

I've been thinking about pairing it with a 4670 though, because the 4770 is so elusive. I want to keep it for a very long time though (like the whole computer for hopefully 8+ years) and I'm wondering if it's enough of a buffer? It's an EarthWatts PSU...

I have to agree that the 4770 is fairly weird. It seems to use half the power of the 4850 when at peak 3D, but at the same time uses just as much as idle (or near it)
    >> /g/ - !LoliconEA. 06/21/09(Sun)20:53 No.4816919
    >>4816885
I mean as far as I'm aware it's only for European markets or poorfag areas, but I can't even find it on only UK online stores, but it's in the $50-100 range last time I checked.

    >>4816875
Realistically you can just get a Corsair 400W or something and it'll run fine, I'm running a 4890 on a Corsair 550W, if you want some longevity out of it getting 50W above what you normally would will mean you could upgrade to a more power hungry GPU or a couple of extra HDDs. But the actual power requirements tend to be exaggerated so morons don't overload their shitty Rosewill PSUs.

50-100W above what you would normally get should give you a buffer for a period that long. You might be able to get away with it but it really depends on how much you use it.
    >> Anonymous 06/21/09(Sun)21:00 No.4816972
    >>4816919

Actually, I'm looking at the PSU calculator, and I can't get a rating of ~380W with the 720 and 4670 unless I overclock to 3.6GHz (does it increase voltage to get this far?) and put cap aging to 50%. I don't really feel like trying to get a decent case and PSU seperately, and it'd probably cost more... but it's interesting to see how that happens. (there's also a few other devices tossed in the mix)

Well if you're getting a 770 keep in mind it doesn't have an IGP, the key is to look for the Southbridge. The SB710 is a scaled down SB750 (the same used in the 790GX/X/FX motherboards) without the raid5 support but is better for overclocking and has Super I/O

I want to get the 4850 and 720 in there. Bad idea? Don't really plan on overclocking either, maybe the 720 by a small amount. Should I do it? Or will the ceiling be too low? Only one hard drive and optical for now. (and a single pciex1 or pci tv tuner in the future)

If you're worried about power consumption, why not get the new Phenom II X3 705e? It only uses 65w of power and performs pretty good.

One thing I hate about benchmarkers is they seem to like having everything n 256AA 1024AF or whatever and have the game at like 10 FPS. What king of nigger mongoloid would play a game at 10 FPS?
