If you want to have boxes etc neatly aligned - turn on grid and grid snap

nice semi transparent boxes over a base image - draw your filled boxes on a layer above, then lower the transparency of that layer

nice borders round the boxes - select the boxes - use either stroke command/stroke layer style.

text alignment is easy if you use gridsnap - or instead of just clicking with the text tool - draw a box, text will align to that box.
