If you don't have a hard on for Elon Musk then you don't know shit about technology.

Who's Elon Musk? Is he important?

Does he have his own like of perfume?

This guy looks so weird... it's like he's white, but it's also like he's Asian, but it's not like he's a combination.

Founder and CEO of SpaceX which he started with his own money.

A company that is almost single headedly drastically reducing the cost of rockets with the ultimate goal of making human colonisation of mars possible. He's already reduced the cost of rockets by a factor of 10 and expect to be able to reduce the cost by at least another factor of 30 by making completely reusable rockets.

Oh, and on top of that he also is co-founder, CEO and lead product architect at Tesla Motors where the first car they completely designed themselves (the Model S) just won the Motor trend Car of the Year. The entire reason he started the company was to accelerate the adoption of electric cars globally.

He also runs another company called Solar City that makes solar panels. This is a guy who comes up with ideas for technology and gets that shit done.

So he's going to design really crappy electric cars for 10 years which will sell well with artists who are big on brand loyality and tollerate being abused.

Next he's going to download various open source hardware car parts off the internet, put some faux wood and faux leather interior, and sell it to suave hipsters who he can ply on their on white/yuppie guilt to sell trendy fads and make them feel better about themselves, and then ignore any and all complaints for the next 10 years, esentiallly selling what should have been a $10k smart car for $20k.

He'll then dictate what speakers, intake and exhaust you put on it, sue chevy for patent infringements on the volt, and get his crowd of loyal followers to cover up his mistakes.

Then we'll start talking about how much of an innovater he was, but the people who did most of the real innovation will die quiet deaths, unnoticed by the technology he made popular.

Or mabey we should stop using the term "The Next Steve Jobs" out of the context of meaning "the next George Pullman"

He also has an idea for something called a "hyperloop" which sounds fucking awesome.

Basically a pipe that would run between cities. People could enter it at any time, never any queues. You could be transported from the east to west cost of America in 30 minutes. It would also apparently cost 1/10th of what a high speed rail network costs.

He hasn't gotten into details about how it works exactly however. Can't wait to see what this guy comes out with.

Commercial exploits in space scare the shit out of me, I've just finished watching PlanetES.

Do we really want to extend imperialism into space before we've unified globally?
>>
>>29115417
One of elons primary drives for wanting to goto mars is to make human survival much more secure. So if there was some huge fuckup on earth. IE, nuclear war, super volcano, asteroid strike or whatever we'd still have a stable population on mars.

Don't expect any global unification on earth in any case any time soon.

A stable population for who though? That's my point. We still have problems here on Earth that we need to fix before we take to the stars and start beating up Klingons and raeping Vulcan/Orion wimminz.

It's something like ~3,400 miles from FL to CA, coast to coast.
How are you going to get people moving at like 2 miles per second? In a tube? No queues? WIthout dying?

source?

Germany doesn't seem to be in the top ten and USA is still number one. In spite of having like the highest rate of poverty in any 1st world country.

Elon Musk confirmed for Cave Johnson
>>
>>29115947
more or less. but at the same time he's proven himself pretty well, especially with the safety shit.

people might have asked how can you make a rocket ten times cheaper then rockets available today and not expect it to blow up and kill everyone half the time?

The Dragon capsule + falcon rocket will be sending astronaughts to the ISS next year and it will be the safest form of space transport for humans to date as the dragon capsule is capable of launching away from the main rocket and land by itself if anything goes wrong.

The Model S car is also (according to safety ratings agencies) more or less the safest car ever built with 5 star ratings in every safety category which I believe is a first.
>>
>>29116041

The man sounds great. Always great to see problem solvers work.
>>
>>29116055
lots of even more exciting shit to come:

In the next three years SpaceX hopes to have working reusable rockets which should bring down launch prices by fucking 98.0%. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. That will open up a whole new world for possibilities for space exploration and commercialisation.

in the next 2 year I believe Tesla motors plans to start shipping it's BlueLine range of cars which is to be a $30,000 price point mass market electric car. The model S has gotten stellar reviews but is a luxury sedan and starts at $50,000. Bringing out cars at that cheaper price point is what will truly start shaking shit up.
>>
>>29116041
>dragon capsule is capable of launching away from the main rocket and land by itself if anything goes wrong.
It's just like my 30 year old rockets
>>
>>29116109
yeah, I'm missing some of the details here. But I know there's something like this it can do, or the way it can do it that makes it far safer then the shit that's been around before.
>>
if you haven't had sex with a bird you don't know shit about technology
>>
he should have done hydrogen fuel cells with tesla not batteries
>>
>>29116125
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Launch_escape_system
there is something about spacex here
>>
>>29116142
>implying everyone has easy access to hydrogen
electricity on the other hand is pretty easy to come buy in most first world countries.

You can charge a Model S to 60% capacity in 30 minutes. Charge it over night and you can get 200-300 mile range depending on what battery you bought. Pretty good for most people.

you can also stop at tesla super charger points that tesla have built (and are building more) on highways in America where you can charge your car for free. yeah, FUCKING FREE. FREE FUCKING FUEL. pretty nice advantage there.

yeah no. union wages and pensions do not make up 90% of the cost of a rocket launch at nasa. Also, if it were that simple there's be loads of rocket companies like SpaceX and there isn't. There's only a small number and the other suck in comparison.

INSULTING GRORIOUS JOHN CARMACK? HERESY

>>

Half-truth. They're also subsidized. That's why NASA is so ass mad.
>>
>>29116381
the last thing I heard about
John Cormack's company is that they crashed an expensive spaceship they were building because of a software bug. lul
>>
>>29116390
who's subsidised? Nasa is 100% subsidised. Nasa isn't ass mad, nasa is saving a shit load of money by hiring SpaceX to send astronauts and supplies to the space station and much much less cost then it could cost them to do themselves. Nasa can spend money on other things like orion.

Then colonization of mars.

>elon musk has kids (effectively clones of his DNA). Will likely end up with electronic implants of some kind in their lifetime as technology progresses, effectively making them cyborgs. Will likely follow their father into careers of world leading entrepreneurs, effectively leading unifying the world in one way or another.. Will likely travel to mars to visit their dad.

Elon is way ahead of you.

But epigenetic expression depends on environmental factors. Just because they have the same DNA doesn't mean they're going to have the drive or the skill doing everything he does.

Yes, but it's not uncommon either.

Does that mean my 100% genetically accurate representation of myself raised under the right circumstanses will have the drive or the skill doing everything I do?.

under the right conditions, both should happen. Theoretically, if you raised him in an environment absolutely identical to the environment you grew up in he should turn out the same as you. Though doing such a thing would be impossible really.
