I pull the old drives from the server as I outgrow them and then use them to archive DVD movies. You can fit about 100 DVD movies on a 500Gb drive - I rip the movies to AVI to put on the server at about 1Gb each. Saves a lot of space plus I have the original DVD image if I need it down the road. The 500Gb drives are kept in plastic cases and mounted when I need them with a USB3 device like this...
