New HTML/CSS rolled out two weeks ago. Be sure to check out the new mobile-optimized layout for phones, and inline extension features.

We also added two new themes (first time in 4.5 years!). Thanks to seaweed for porting them over from OneeChan!

We are still working through a few bugs with the new code. Please report any bugs you find to newhtml@4chan.org.

I'm seriously considering blocking ads on 4chan now. There seems to be literally no benefit.

People here surely cannot into basic psychology.

The only reason he mentioned that the site is going at a loss, is because he wants sympathy and for people to think of him more highly because he "sacrifices himself in order to keep 4chan running".

The only reason he hasn't abandoned 4chan yet, despite it costing him money (assuming he doesn't lie out his ass about that part), is because he loves and needs the attention people here give him.

All the real money milkers such as JPMorgan, RaymondJames, or even something basic like Carbonite won't come because of 4Chan's reputation. They don't want to be associated with this website, and probably think there's nothing to gain from advertising to this group (NEETs and dead broke students.)

only way for moot to make money is ads. Not many companies are willing to advertise on a site known infamously as the asshole of the internet. And a large portion of anons use adblock and such, so there's little point advertising here anyway.

There are no restrictions with an .org domain. Just because it was originally intended for non-profit organizations doesn't mean that there's any form of enforcement whatsoever.

There's only a few tlds that really enforce their restrictions and it's usually shit like .museum that nobody really wants.

You're confusing profit with an organization. That's the whole point of the post. You can have a million dollars principle and a thousand dollars of operating costs a year. That just means you'll spend 10,000 years to use that million dollars.

You can't allocate funds elsewhere. It's not a profit, it's just an addition to principle.

I have and am. Again, there are ad networks that don't care about content.

Also, porn does occasionally escape through AdSense's scans. I had a friend who would just clean up his site the best he could before the 13th so he could be ready when the 15th came and was never caught until a couple of months ago. I guess the more you have the more likely you are to get caught. It would also be a good reason to enforce the SFW tag, and have the janitors actually enforce this shit ad use md5 filtering.

>Actually, I do because I am also a jlist publisher
Cool, but you don't know what kind of deal there is between J-List and moot. You'd be insane to think it's exactly the same as you have, when this is one of the top most visited places on the Internet, and whose userbase overlaps greatly with the goods being sold. It's not only targeted as fuck, it has high visibility.

>I cannot comprehend the stupidity of that statement.

It caught on with college students. A few years ago you couldn't even go to a concert without getting a band Myspace page shoved down your throat. The problem to me was that once the users were there, they got bored. There wasn't really anything there to keep them logged in. Spammers and idiots ran it so far down that it was a nuisance to even log in.

Facebook attracted people because it was exclusive at one point. It has a bunch of users as a good majority are always online because most of them are addicted to their shitty games. There is still spam and virus threats, but nowhere the levels of Myspace a few years ago.

Facebook's bargain is people who like scrap-booking. God knows their mobile clients are there for the mobile experience.
>>
>>25132373

>>25132230
Adsense does care about content, specially on a website where a few million viitors visit everyday. Give me one example of a large website (alexa 100k) that has content like porn and also has adsense. While the smaller sites may slip through, it is very unlikely that 4chan will. In addition, 4chan would not ever get approved by adsense anyway.

Why would jlist have a "special agreement" with moot that would pay him pay per click, they would lose money that way. I can't be bothered explaining how affiliate marketing works. My anime website gets 3 million pageviews per month, it has similar jlist advertisements. firstly, the clickthrough rate it shitty, and so is the conversion rate its something like 0.2% click through rate and 1 sale per 700 clicks which is really shitty. Again, jlist would lose a lot of money if they did that.

>I cannot comprehend why you linked that article when it's not really the same issue. There are tons of money-exchange services that could be used instead of direct donations.

taking donations is not an effective business model and mott would never do it. also, only really really shady money exchange services would accept donations to moot, they're likely to skim some money too. He could use bitcoins, but again, as I said, donations is not an effective business model.

/prog/ is an awful text board that nobody likes.
Then of course there is the fact that it is a text board. /dev/ isn't just going to be filled with text.

/diy/ is for physical things
/dev/ would be for virtual things.
This would equally incorporate /3/ content too, for example.

It would give a central location for all developers to show off content and wave their e-peen at each other.

Also, add a fucking NSFW tag on all boards already, nobody gives a shit about the board colors, not even half the mods do.
Why this has happened yet is beyond me.
Anyone browsing in work who gets caught deserves promotions anyway.

But a lot of companies do this.

They sell some things at a loss or really tiny profit that is a basic requirement of other things that have a larger profit to them.
Whether it is a supermarket or fast food, or cheap / free updates to software.

But to compare that to a supermarket would be everyone in the town constantly coming in and taking at least 1 thing for free.

Will do.

On a side note they failed hard at editing out their name. You can see it's Raven on one line. They didn't bother removing it in the following conversation screenshots after realizing they had fucked up. I'll post em if anyone wants em.

But for now here are some more pictures of Sammy being hot/cute.

/prog/ had smarter posts and challenges than whatever you could find on /g/'s programming threads and /r/programming.

Now it's full /vip/ mode. It sucks. moot should just have hired a mod for /prog/ instead of adding prettyprinting to /g/.

We just know he didn't like Sammy and treated them like shit. In the thread that I got the pics from he said that Sammy was annoying and self centered and shit. Though the conversation makes Raven seem like the obvious dick.

In any case I actually find the conversation to be good news. It confirms that Sammy attempted to commit suicide (and explains why Sammys sites went down) but also proves that they survived the first attempt and there is no real proof that Sammy made a second attempt. Sammy could totally still be alive (though depressed).

Also: not 100% sure if this pic is Sammy but someone posted it in a Sammy thread...
>>
Dead or alive, as long as he is not posting here, I'm happy.

Why would you be happy about the absence of someone awesome? In any case I'll pick up the slack and post enough Sammy pics to make it seem like they never left! Rose seems to have gone out of style but Sammy will always be /g/'s queen.

Don't think thats sammy.

I figured it probably wasn't :(
I think I may have actually seen someone post that pic on /soc/ once (I know I'm a horrible person for traveling to such an obviously inferior board).

I'm running low on actual Sammy pics. I don't have many. I know there are at least a few in existence that I didn't think to save when Sammy was still posting on /g/.

Not to derail this derailed thread (rerail?) but nobody ever did provide proof that Moot had been proven to have lied about 4chan not being profitable in the past. Was it ever actually proven that 4chan had been profitable?
