On Sunday we rolled out new HTML for 4chan's imageboards. The new code validates HTML5/CSS3, the design should appear exactly the same, pages should load slightly faster (especially long threads), and extension/user script/archive developers should have a much easier job parsing our pages. This is the first time in approximately ten years that it has been updated.

If you are using an extension or app that has not been updated for the changes, some features may not work—you will need to wait for the developer to update their extension/app to be compatible with the new HTML. If you haven't downloaded it already, try the Official 4chan Chrome Extension.

The most significant changes with the new HTML are a new mobile-optimized layout for phones, and inline extension features. Check them out by clicking [Settings] in the upper-right (make sure you don't select features that conflict with those from an extension though), or visit 4chan from your phone!

We are still working through a few bugs with the new code. Please report any bugs you find to newhtml@4chan.org.

crashed and caused weird issues with compiling, and it is non-free.

I made a hackintosh as I got an iPad at launch through work for free (going green). iTunes worked, played digital copies of blu-rays, but when I booted into windows my digital copies greyed out with copyright issues which apple claimed it was every other companies fault but theirs.
I gave away my iPad to the wife and got rid of my hackintosh partition, i regained my freedom and never looked back.
Honestly, iTunes is the crappiest of the crappy software available and suppresses your freedom; you must use it to use their products.

Yeah, it's their fault for being lazy. Apple write iTunes for Mac OS X. They then port it to Windows (good and badly). It's good because everything works as intended, and it means they only have to write software once and can release updates at the same time.

It's bad because it isn't very efficient and runs slowly. And before you just blame Apple for being lazy, try using Microsoft Office for Mac. Not only do all modern Macs use 64 bit and Microsoft only write Office in 32 bit, but they do a similar thing - not using the native API and so it runs very unreliably and slow (actually runs worse than iTunes on Windows)

Somebody seems mad. GIMP can do anything that Photoshop can, except it's free. Learning Adobe is not a "valuable skill." As long as the job can be done, that's all that matters. Using Dev C++ instead of CodeBlocks to program will both yield the same results, neither is better than the other and you can work between them if necessary. There is no NEED to use Photoshop. I hate iTunes even more on OS X because of how it's tied to the OS. It's definitely a victim of feature creep.

I don't think Notepad++ is all that bad. I think it's a pretty nice simple text editor with syntax highlighting (buggy sometimes). It also handles large files with long lines better than some text editors.

Also, fuck all word processors.

The reason people use Adobe is that they don't know any better and think that high prices=better program. Ever heard of he animated short called Big Buck Bunny? It was made in Blender, a free, and in your eyes, a shitty version of 3DS Max. The Apple fans in this thread are hysterical. They think we actually give a dam about their OS. How quaint.

My pet peeves with Apple:

1. The possibility of corrupting of thumb drives when removing it abruptly. I know caching to RAM may give more performance. But having it as default is retarded for a removable device.

2. Toolbox clutter. The whole document centric interface is useful when you are using one program at a time. But when you start multitasking ( which is what most people do) the toolbar clutter becomes an unwieldy mess. Having all the dialogue boxes scattered about with no defining factor to which program they actually belong to is an absolute pain in the ass.

3. Ejecting a drive requires you to drag the drive in the general area of the recycle bin. This is where the whole Apple philosophy of muscle memory breaks down. a recycle bin means to delete or scrap, not remove.

4. software centric ejecting of discs. Now this has got to be one of the most retarded. Every disk drive that I have seen has some sort of pinhole which allows you to manually remove a disk mechanically if there is a failure with the drive or computer. Having a little button on the side to eject the disk is not that difficult and can easily be designed in a flat minimalist manner which is not protruding from the chassis.

5. The one button philosophy. Now if Mac OS X actually took an approach which meant that you did only need one button to operate every single click function this would not be so much of an issue. But the fact of the matter is, they don't. All the have done is replace "right clicking" with "hold down the control key". The fact that they have also added right click support into OS X itself means there doesn't seem to be an excuse any more.

Why is transmission slow as shit on my computer, not even speed-wise, but it is having slow speeds compared to uTorrent also. The interface is very laggy, such as how uTorrent updates your down speed every second, transmission does every three or four for me. The speeds are another thing but I want to fix that problem, any help?

PVsyst. This software makes my working day a living hell.

It's buggy, has a poor interface, has error messages in French, force closes without warning and is generally a really poor piece of software.

Our manager insists that we use it. It costs nearly $900 + an annual subscription fee.

I hate Matlab with a passion. It's the Perl of linear algebra, for better or for worse. It's painful to inherit code that has been passed around by a legion of PhDs who came before you and you have to stay up until 3 in the morning pulling your hair out out trying to fix a subtle bug that has been part of the system for years, but everyone managed to work around in their own misguided way, when all you really wanted to do was science. I have started to go bald in the past year and suspect Matlab to be the cause. /rant
