X window managers don't work that way. On Windows, the non-client area of a window (the window border) is drawn by the window's process with the DefWindowProc API, which can of course be overridden and modified. In X, the window borders are drawn in a completely different process that could be any number of different window managers/decorators.

Chrome does it by telling the window manager to draw no border, and instead draws the border itself in the client area. This works, but means the browser won't match any system theme and will often feel out of place or have unusual behaviour when compared to other apps.

I'd want to make it vertical, actually, on the opposite side of the launcher. The text-less icons are perfectly fit fur such a task.
As for the menus, a system to have it pop out so the text stays readable horizontally. I'm not sure, but maybe 12.04's HUD gets closer to that.

No wonder Chrome replaced Firefox as most used third party browser recently. I can imagine how alienating it must be to upgrade your browser only to find that everything is different...and looks exactly like another browser.

I can appreciate where Mozilla is coming from, though. Why not just take the best elements of Chrome and combine them with the only good elements of Firefox (Add-ons)?

I always configured my my FF look like this, which is almost how it looked like back in the Phoenix days, when I first started to use it (theme aside). As long as I can configure it like this, I don't mind any changes the make to the UI.

I like this feature as it is indeed very convenient. It doesn't always work, though. Sometimes it just doesn't shows a theme/icon/whatever you just installed and often the "remove" function doesn't remove said themes/icons/whatever. It still needs work, apparently.

Tabs are hidden when only one tab is open. The "new tab" button is next to the url bar. It gives me some extra space when I don't use multiple tabs.

I would jump on a borderless, tiling window manager if there is some way to use it effectively with the mouse only, and that includes resizing of the windows and rearranging them.

They don't use gtk, they use some scripting shit for the GUI, why do you think you can customize almost everything with a a little script? That port is not a real port, it is just meant to mimic the currently used gtk theme and using a native file dialog.
They would need to hide the currently used wm, wouldn't they? Well if i look at chrome, it doesn't seem impossible. But we are talking about fat fuck firefox, that doesn't even import the currently used gtk theme properly(gradients anyone?)..

The last time i researched about it they said that it uses XUL to render it's widgets/style/whatever, that's why custom gtk themes are not properly rendered, since XUL doesn't support every aspect of gtk. It is only used as some sort of backend for the appearance and the file dialog.
