  • Dear Londoners: I am in your lovely rainy city for the next few days. If you'd fancy a spot of tea and dessert,
send an e-mail to london@4chan.org with a sentence or two about yourself,
why you aren't Jack the Ripper, and include a timestamp.
    Cheers, —mootykins

This is dead maufive. He uses a 17" macbook pro. In fact many music professionals use a macbook pro. As does the president of the united states. As do many computer science professors.

If macbook pro is so bad, why are so many people using them?

Ease of use id imagine, brand loyalty. Moneys for using their products over others, also the fact that mac's were always involved with computer music. Didn't Mike Oldfield use a mac trying to recreate Tubular Bells live quite some time ago.

Personally I'm with Stallmann, it's your shit so why should it report back to the company (microsoft/google/facebook) about what you are doing and not let you modify anything without paying more (apple).

    two reasons:
    >Apple’s hardware has historically been used by the “multimedia industry” (this was back when a mac still used Motorola hardware). The result is that the “audio/video community” is largely based around Apple hardware (although, form a technical standpoint, a mac is just a pc with a different OS).

I remember reading "Making comics by Scott McCloud"
there was that chapter about inking and how his comic was made the message was basically
    >BUY AN APPLE IT'S GREAT FOR MAKING ART!
turns out: what really matters when making art:
    > truthful color reproduction
(which when you have a good monitor isn't that hard to achieve)

and a computer that can handle the graphic-program(I guess that would be Photoshop)

I think it's some sort of old myth from the past as Apple had something old PC didn't have (maybe something about being user-friendly(GUI), the 80's say 'hello!'),
but nowadays it's kind of archaic to buy a mac when you're an artist,
Windows is just as easy to use and the really important thing is the monitor

It is a music production forum used by some of the best and most famous rock and metal producers out there.
The majority use windows, but the general consensus is that the OS doesn't matter much.
    Pros and cons:
If you use OS X you can use Logic
If you use Windows you have a much, much larger selection of audio plugins available to you.

That said I know someone who has a mac and they have windows installed for audio production.

It's good that it's closed source. Open source basically means it's less secure because hackers can view the source.

Same as Windows. And Windows has infinitely larger software base. Therefore, WIndows is superior.

And if you wanted configurable and open-ended, you should have picked Linux.

As I said, there is no reason for MacOSX to exist apart from the corporate ones.

What software do they use that requires them to have a Macbook? I think they use it because they have a lot of money, and haven't the time to dedicate to researching a proper computer, so they compensate for that by overpaying.

This is fine, but there's absolutely no reason for someone outside of that realm to own a Macbook.

This is a TECHNOLOGY board. We all research technology in some form, so it's simply unacceptable for anyone here to talk highly of Macbooks.

Go to any hacker conference and you'll see a huge majority with macs. Do you really think all these people buy macs because they're rich, stupid and don't know shit about technology? No, the reality is that these people buy Macs _because_ they know about technology, and not just what gaming graphics card benchmarks highest on some useless test.

Of course, now we're BOTH just making baseless claims that we can't prove just to support our OS argument, so I suggest you stop posting, and I will too. Fair?

The reality is that researchers use macs because it's a POSIX system that runs MS Office natively. MS Office is sadly required to deal with the rest of the world, and no sensible person is going to write research software for Windows.

No, I'm not actually, but there's no point in listing it, because you'd call it shit still even if it was an ivy league school, and if not, you'd just say I was lying, which is why this argument of nothing but baseless claims is pointless, and I find it hilarious and pathetic that you'd wish to continue it. Do you really have that severe of a case of buyer's remorse.

    >Linux is the only sensible alternative to macs, but especially on laptops Apple just beats the shit out of it.
Wow, now I'm starting to think you're trolling. You're telling me an operating system that can be systematically configured to work seamlessly with any piece of hardware, and can support dozens of lightweight programs and WMs can't compete with an operating system that can only run on a very select set of hardware, with whatever bloat it comes with, and the inability to alter code to make it do as you wish instead of being controlled by it is better than GNU/Linux?

Sorry, but you're a fucking drone. A sheep. You're baaaaaaaing with your baseless claims because that's all you know. That's all you were taught by your overlords. It's pathetic, and actually quite sad. I pity the shit out of you, bro. I really, really do.

They have the best tablet on the market in nearly every single way possible and their macbook air is incredible plus where they didn't invent anything they did open an incredibly interesting pathway into technology. Even other companies are taking notice and emulating them, you know you love some things about them.

For once, let it go. Apple is succeeding again where it used to be years ago just a joke with no market share because nobody cared about apple. Now it's the MVP of companies.
