When I was working at a computer shop, I had someone who was using a self build come into the shop with a pc he built himself who killed the mobo by having the pc short itself on the back of the case because he didn't install all the stand offs.

If you look at the bottom right corner of the second pic you can see the damage happened near where you install the stand off. I'm assuming one wasn't installed and the back of the board made contact with the case.

I'm of the general assumption that if the manufacturer spent the money to include a piece of hardware, you should probably consider using it.

Tried to pull the heatsink off cold and the force of pulling it ripped the cpu out and it flung the heatsink which crashed into something.

Moral of the story? Run your comp for 30-45 mins before removing heatsink.

HAHAHA, you clearly haven't worked at a computer repair shop, you should see the grease and shit what's found in most computers.
Washing is perfectly viable option, actually no other way to clean the dirtiest mobos.
I've cleaned old mobos under normal tab water multiple times, some way over 10 years old and still running.
Ofc you should use distilled water, so no calcium residue is left behind when drying, but usually it's so minimal that it really doesn't matter.

You should really used an air compressor to blast everything out rather than using water. Alcohol would probably help as well.
