change your business to suit a modern world.
piracy is here, and it's staying.
people consume so much media and they cant afford a fraction of it, and that makes them buy none of it.
concerts are bands main forms of revenue, unless they go independent like immortal technique and win moneys properly,
games with drm and online connections to play make money,
movies that play in most cinemas and dont release the bluray or whatever make lots of money- marketing / viral marketing increases it...

    adapt.

there's no way you can stop me downloading in whatever way i choose.

I'm not saying the 'industry' is right either mind you, personally I think they drive people to piracy just because they fuck shit up so much....

    Games overpriced....
The current DLC fad (thats only gonna get worse)
    Overpriced movies
Severely Bullshit lawsuits ($150,000 for a single mp3?? = Scam)
Unskippable 'previews' instead of just playing the movie you bought
DRM so you cant play shit where/how you want
    etc. etc. etc.

DRM is one thing, feel free to break that and burn your stuff and recode it into another format etc, you bought it.

So yeah, they're shitbags, there's no doubt about that.

But that still doesn't justify yourself...., make as many excuses as you want, you're still nothing more than a petty thief and you know it. Trying to 'justify' that "FACT" in any way only makes you look even more pathetic....

And assault is not battery, yet still has negative consequences, even if it is 'less bad'.

Hi OP, why don't you educate yourself for once before you talk on an issue?

Downloading TV shows I can't see anything wrong with.
My parents pay for cable, and since recording things of the TV is legal, I could theoretically just record the show of the TV and save that on my computer.
So what is exactly is the difference between me downloading it from some torrent vs recording it myself?

I don't think there's any, but I'm not entirely knowledgeable in the field. You could possibly argue precedent on the basis of the outcome of Sony vs. Universal if you were ever prosecuted, but you'd need a damn good lawyer.

    well, we could

    socialize media
small tax on internet connection, you pick who your share goes to.
but you arent allowed to think like this.

    buy media direct from artist.
record companies existed when production and distribution were expensive.
    they are cheap now.

the middle man is trying to write himself into the laws.
this will be a lose for the consumer and the artist.

Personally, I've simply stopped consuming most media.

I still play the occasional vidya (sometimes F2P), but... other than a handful of movies (mostly Marvel films), I avoid movies entirely, don't watch TV, went to the theater for the first time in over a year a couple of days ago, and it was to see a foreign film (Arrietty)... so, yeah.

If they want to adjust to the new world, I'll start consuming their goods again. Steam is great, and all, but, everything's more expensive than in retail stores, except for sales (which are nice), or new products (which are exactly pricematched to retail). All those savings? Who knows where they go.
