I know I'm likely gonna be bitched out here... but I have to ask what /g/ suggests for a browser. First time posting here so sorry if I seem stupid

Pic related, it's what I currently use.

    GOOD BROWSERS

    Firefox
    Chromium

    BAD BROWSERS

    Everything else

    >Chrome is just chromium, with secret google additions. You can't trust it.
    >Opera offers nothing over firefox, often renders pages incorrectly, and is closed source to boot.
    >Midori and Safari are insults to webkit.
    >Lynx/Links/Elinks/W3m belong in the 80s and on arch boxes suffering from "X is broken lol that just how it is being bleeding edge" syndrome
    >etc
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)22:37 No.22191406
/g/ recommends either Chromium or Nightly.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)22:44 No.22191523
    Internet Explorer
it's the number one browser for downloading other browsers
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)22:45 No.22191551
    >>22191406

Nightly? Never heard of that before.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)22:45 No.22191559
    >>22191406

I prefer nightly because I can leave private browsing on so it doesn't save anything to disk, and still not lose addon settings

also the UI can be put on one line

and some other small stuff I can't remember, like better support from websites

few downsides: closing inactive tabs is cumbersome

Nightly is the dev version of Firefox.

speaking of firefox, why the hell doesit suck at memory management? It's crazy when I have multiple tabs open for a moderate period of time.

I use Nightly, and it uses about 565 MB for 5 tabs.

Luckily, I have an insane amount of RAM, so its craving for resources isn't an issue for me.

I am disappointed with how Mozilla can't into memory management.

I'm on Debian GNU/Linux and I'm using Iceweasel 8. It's a memory hog, should I switch to Chromium? I mostly browse the chans with 4chanx and watch youtube/flash videos. BTW I usually keep about 20 tabs open at the same time.

It might be adapting based on the available memory. As long as firefox is able to give up memory for programs, there is no problem. Opera has a more extreme version of this but is still the fastest browser to use on very old computers.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)23:18 No.22192167
Depends on what you want out of a browser, OP.

    >Chromium
If you want something that's very easy to use, very secure, very fast, stable, and has a decent number of addons, but don't mind it not being really all that customizable

    >Firefox
If you want something that's somewhat easy to use, somewhat fast, has a shit ton of addons, and is insanely customizable, but don't mind it being rather unstable at times, and rather insecure without addons

Well, it's not something crazy like 64 GB, but I'd say the 12 GB I have is pretty insane for most people.

I used to have only 4 GB, but then a snazzy deal on Newegg caught my eye.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/12(Wed)23:30 No.22192352
Since this is a browser thread I'll just ask here. I installed Chromium 16 on debian but its giving me that Aw snap! error and it doesn't want to do anything. Any help?
