Imagine if pirates spent half the time they did defending their immoral actions doing something productive for society. They might even be able to afford video games and music.

Defending your actions is for the weak. Either you are okay what you're doing or you're not. If you have to argue it to somebody else who you're not personally involved with, you are doing something that you don't personally agree with yourself, and should change your actions.

"Piracy" is productive, as it shows the industry it needs to change it's business model. "Piracy" is a service problem, not a price problem.

No it shows that people are thieving parasites that feel the need to rob from the very few genuinely productive human beings on the earth.

You know its been nearly 15 years and the price of cd's and dvd's still hasn't gone down. And yet they've been cheaper and cheaper to product while the music and video quality is getting shittier and shittier.
Also don't be pointing fingers, six tend to point back.

i didn't know you browsed /g/, mr. newell

but yes, steam sales are proof that convenience from vendors is a great deterant to pirating

Eh, to some extent I'd disagree with that. There are some people out there who pirate because it's more convenient than putting up with the DRM and some of the other bullshit companies try to force on customers. Then there are idiots who are just cheap as hell and root their phone to pirate a $0.99 app, for example, and end up jumping through far more hoops to pirate the software than purchase it legitimately. That's not a service and convenience problem, that's a cheapskate problem.

wasn't referring to that video quality, was referring to the quality of the shitty movies they keep reproducing at an insane rate.

The cost of a movie or song is from the thousands of man-hours put into creating it, not the physical cost of the media it is distributed on.

Oh wow, don't you just love the, "HURR HERE ARE 1001 +1 REASONS AS TO WHY I AM A MORALLY UPRIGHT INDIVIDUAL FOR DOWNLOADING SHIT INSTEAD OF PAYING FOR IT"

Heck, i'm not even mad at the ones who download but are willing to admit that it's theft.

If you really think that its anything other than theft, you really really need to drop that 99%er mentality and get a job for once.

When they're using autotune and computer based karaoke shit to make music I lose sympathy, which is becoming more and more of a trend right now. Just look at how horrible rap turned out.

Fair enough, but that doesn't give you the right to pirate it. Always LOL at people who claim they don't buy music these days because it's so shitty, but it's not so shitty that they don't bother pirating it. And it's not like music is that expensive, you can get a DRM free MP3 for like $1 on Amazon. Music is cheaper than ever, with CDs you used to have to go out and buy the whole CD for the one or two songs you liked or spend $5 or whatever on a single CD. Now you can buy stuff a la carte and get only the songs you want for a very reasonable price.

Like I said some pirates have legit complaints, games for example can include some pretty ridiculous DRM and I can kind of understand people pirating to get around that. But some of the excuses pirates make are also pretty damn stupid and make it clear that they're just cheap and don't want to pay for stuff. Which is fine, but just fucking admit it instead of trying to rationalize what you do.
