So, this NDAA/SOPA bullshit seems to be planning to block sites by denying DNS translation.

So, I was wondering, are there any public DNS servers outside the states a guy could use if/when the shit hits the fan?

    pic unrelated.

You can always just type in the IP address. Totally bypasses DNS.

I've been thinking, a giant mailing list with multiple distribution channels would be ideal. A group of maintainers would keep a list of blocked hosts and send it out once per month, using a random email account. It would be next to impossible to block.

Only problem is getting someone to start it.

Because google magicaly unblocks it and isn't filtering it's own searches, right?

There was an addon for firefox that did this for sites that the FBI had seized. (domein seizure)
forgot the name and can't be arsed since i don't live in the US

"Its" is the single word you do not use an apostrophe with when ownership comes into play.

should create a website where you type in your address and it gives you the ip
    >> Anonymous 12/15/11(Thu)20:03 No.21648766
We'll all just have to either switch to fido net or tor.

I'm sure several new networks with similar philosophies as fido net and tor will spring up if this SOPA shit gets passed.

A a point of inquiry, because the bill also seeks to ban circumvention technologies TOR because it can provide the same services as a DNS server ( no to mention access ), could PGP cryptography also be on the firing line?

I mean, it can be used to mask the contents of a post that could provide a translation of a domain name into an address. Doesn't this *technically* make any form of obfuscation including cryptography illegal?

You think they would be dumb enough to not filter IPs?

Alternately, you disagree using a proxy/tor with excluded nods wouldn't work?

It doesn't matter if SOPA does it or not, at least for 4chan, you can't get to the site via IP. Try it. 4chan's IP is 199.27.134.243
