We will also be sending proper Last-Modified headers on HTML starting early next week (works on our end, waiting on a fix from CDN). And still tracking down the issues with posting/accessing sys.4chan.org.

I've gotten a few e-mails from Australian users about difficulty resolving 4chan DNS and accessing the site. If you are affected, please e-mail moot@4chan.org with more specifics like your ISP, and what the 4chan subdomains are resolving to (run "nslookup boards.4chan.org" and "nslookup www.4chan.org" from command prompt/terminal).

173 KB Building my first computer! Noctem 11/26/11(Sat)19:10 No.21286012
Hello everyone here at /g/, I've been lurking for quite a while but I thought now is the time to finally do it...I'm going to build my own pc and I'll be immensely grateful for any feedback.
I need to know everything, every part I'll need, what kind of software, how do I make it able to access the internet etc.

I'll most likely be ordering all of my parts from newegg

    All help is super appreciated!

see that's the thing, I know very little about which parts I want to get or how to assemble. I know for ram I'm looking at either kingstonhyperX ram or Corsair, I'm also not sure If I want the phenom x6 or intel i7 as I'm not sure which would be better for gaming just yet. as for everything else.. eh.. I'm still so new. I want at least 12 gigs of ram to start though.

    What's your budget?

If you're going with Intel, an i5-2500k will be equal to the i7-2600k in terms of gaming. You don't need hyperthreading unless you're doing 3D rendering.

G.Skill is generally the recommended RAM here (2x2GB or 2x4GB), but Corsair is the second best. 12 GB is way too much RAM for gaming.

For other components look at PSU, Cases, GPUs, SSD/HDDs, Mobos, and DVD Drives.

so you think I should forgo the phenom x6 for the i7/i5?
My budget is around 1k if I can keep it that low for everything. Is that reasonable? I know 12 gigs is a bit much but I want to be prepared for any newer games that come out, also I'll be livestreaming/uploading a lot as well.

Yeah. Get an i5. You don't need six coars.

$1,000 is a reasonable price for a nice build. Though you still don't need 12 GB. Even if you're doing livestreaming, 8GB over 1333MHz will do the trick. You can also overclock your i5 if you need more power.

Intel's processors are more powerful than AMD's, despite the latter having more cores available. (This is the reason for the rather large price difference.) So yes, most of us suggest getting the i5 2500K, and if possible, you should get it from Micro Center. I think they're sold out at the moment for making them a part of the Black Friday deals, but they're still something like $50 cheaper there even without the extra Black Friday pricing. (MC has deals worked out with Intel and AMD that lets them sell their CPUs at lower prices than anyone else.)

Also, to maximize your CPU's potential, get an aftermarket cooler. Look up the COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO on Newegg. With that, you can overclock it to a stable 4.5GHz from what I hear.

FUCKING THIS. Unless, of course, you enjoy it when your PSU fails and fries your motherboard and everything on it.

But a question for you: I've heard that Intel SSDs are the most trustworthy/have the lowest failure rate. Is this true? I don't really need SATA III, so I was looking at an 80 or 120GB 320 Series.

WHICH REMINDS ME. Anyone not aware, Intel is giving huge rebates through Amazon; like $70 to $80 off.

    Dear OP:

I don't know about American prices and I'm sure /g/ will hate for sure, though pic related to that.

Case: Haf 922, I have one myself and it's godly with cooling while being decent in price. Can turn off the front panel LED light.

Processor (CPU): i5-2500k, overclocking with a EUFI BIOS board would make this a breeze especially if you find a tutorial on how to do so.

Motherboard: This is variable, you can get anything from z68 for the SSD chaching and extra display ports for testing if a graphics card fails, the p67 which is the z68 without the integrated display ports. Personally, I'd go for the Asus z68vPro as I haven't had a single problem with it for the little bit of time I've owned it while having a good EUFI BIOS (If you don't know what it is, it's an interactive BIOS like when you press Delete during computer boot up)

Alternatively, the ASRock series of the two chipsets are good in quality as some of /g/ has been voicing so you could go to them for a cheaper alternative.
    >> Anonymous 11/26/11(Sat)20:17 No.21287107
Graphics card: 2x560 TI 448, it's just a bit under the 570 in performance while being under $300, a good mix I'd say, you'd get better performance in 90% of games as they generally implement the SLI scaling better than crossfire nowadays

Cooler: Notua 14 something or the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ EVO, it'll do the trick for you

PSU: Suggested would be Seasonic, Termaltake toughpower (Specifically the toughpower series, the others are somewhat rubbish), maybe Coolermaster if you want too. Just get one of about 700-750 watts, making it modular will add to the price but will aid in cable management to make it look neater and improve airflow.

Ram: 8GB would be optimal for shit to be loaded into it for performance increase, anything above is too much and below is just regular standard.

    >Optional: 1 200mm side-panel fan for the case and 1 140mm fan for the bottom of the case too if you're that much into cooling

Faggots to you for "OMG DAT HEAT" in just about any review I've seen the AMD variants get hotter than the 500 counterparts, take your memes back to >>>/b/
