  • We are still working on some of the outstanding CloudFlare issues. We are aware of an issue affecting IE users where all images are saved as BMP and are working on a fix. We will also be sending proper Last-Modified headers on HTML starting early next week (works on our end, waiting on a fix from CDN). And still tracking down the issues with posting/accessing sys.4chan.org.

I've gotten a few e-mails from Australian users about difficulty resolving 4chan DNS and accessing the site. If you are affected, please e-mail moot@4chan.org with more specifics like your ISP, and what the 4chan subdomains are resolving to (run "nslookup boards.4chan.org" and "nslookup www.4chan.org" from command prompt/terminal).

    Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
    Love, mootykins

IE saves as BMP. Why the fuck you think you stay away from IE? What do you think one of the primary reasons I switched is?

if they're trying to appease all the totalitarian governments in the world to keep their IPs unblocked then they're part of the problem

and whoever supports them is also part of the problem

Why would IE save the images as BMP? I don't see any reason whatsoever for this.

maybe the MIME type is incomplete or something. IE always did it once in a while.

I've filtered these useless "announcements" long time ago because they were fucking annoying.

Is there a way to filter these retarded huge stickies in /s/ without fucking up others?

    >Why would IE save the images as BMP? I don't see any reason whatsoever for this.

Because the files have been deleted from the file cache, and so the only remaining copy is the decoded bitmap in the browser ram.
    It happens for two reasons:
    - if you opened a picture such a long time ago that the cache was already reused while you were browsing other things
    - If you are browsing encrypted content and the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option is enabled in IE (it is by default).

If the latter is enabled, IE won't be able to save stuff to HD if the server sends the "Cache-Control: No Store" or "Cache-Control: No Cache" html header. So it's kind of Cloudflares fault too.

Also: IE9 and up saves stuff as PNG instead of BMP. If you managed to save something as "untitled.png" or "untitled.bmp", it's because of this issue.

The main problem with IE and 4chan is that 4chan code lacks a doctype, which is required for IE to not render things as if they were coded in 1995.

    >I've filtered these useless "announcements" long time ago because they were fucking annoying.

The last announcement had a unclosed h3 tag in it, which completely broke the DOM tree on the page, making it impossible to filter stuff out. Fun times.

    Oh OK
Thanks for the info, but how do browsers such as Firefox get around this issue?
