  • STOP INTERNET CENSORSHIP—TWO BILLS IN CONGRESS UNDERMINE THE PRINCIPLES OF THE WEB

American Censorship Day: November 16, 2011
On November 16th, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" will be heard in Congress. This legislation, in addition to the Senate's "Protect IP Act," completely undermine and fundamentally change the core principles of the Web. They have the potential to radically alter or shut down sites like YouTube, Flickr, 4chan, others, and all new companies that follow.
See americancensorship.org for more and help us stop these bills from becoming law.

(Site back online after DDoS—sorry about the downtime. Be sure to follow @4chan and @moot on Twitter and check status.4chan.org in the event of future downtime.)

Could we see 4chan moving to new servers outside of the United States if congress passes those bills?

They do have jurisdiction over what American ISPs do, and moot isn't going to go out of the US just to cater to Europe and shit. The US still represents the lion's share of traffic - just like 90% of all sites.

The best solution to this whole thing is just crushing the bill. Everyone from moot to Eric Schmidt is so invested in the internet at status quo that they are fighting to keep it from being affected. Moving overseas would not be any more acceptable than putting Google HQ on the moon.

The US makes the most traffic by FAR. Like it's not even close. We consume like motherfuckers. Otherwise, let us Americans gorge on media, food, and whatever else we want that keeps producers producing.

Basically, one computer acts as a proxy that you connect to. In the business world, companies let you connect to their VPN so you can work from home on their network. The same kind of thing can be done that lets you "share" a connection remotely.

But that could kill everyone on the planet since the US has nukes. So why bother attacking them if it'll lead to a nuclear world war three?

    >How do you access darknet?
you make your own... a darknet is a private network not connected to the internet

after all, the internet is just a network of networks

it's not as if a packet-switched network has to be publicly available and on the internet

Actually, almost all porn is banned except for softcore and anything that can be successfully argued to have artistic merit.

The regulations on pornography are pretty ridiculous, for example there is a regulation that stipulates the acceptable angles and distances from which an erect penis can be shown.

To be fair, HTML is just a subset of SGML which comes from IBM.

The concepts of hypertext, markup, etc. where not invented by that British guy whose name I forget, he just designed this particular implementation and it turned out to be the one everyone decided to use.
