I agree with you on the pros of having a tripcode, but remaining anonymous doesn't necessarily mean you don't wish to be responsible for what you say. I'd be more inclined to go with the idea that going anonymous means you don't care.

It's a freedom of speech thing, as well. Going anonymous means your word will be weighed on its own, rather than by who is saying it.

I personally stay as a tripfag, because I do have that sense of responsibility and what I say can be taken more to heart. I try to come off as having a calm and rational demeanor while contributing to discussions so that others conversing with me can expect somebody intelligent to talk to. Sure, there are those who will refute what you say due solely on the fact you use a tripcode, without reading anything. But conversly, there are others who would do the same thing for the opposite reason. You can't win them all.

Just remember, the freedom of anonymity made this site what it is: A place where one can discuss any topic without judgement on your character.

While I can't say I agree with the stereotype that all tripfags are attention whores, I must disagree with your assertion. The fact that a post is made anonymously in no way gives it more or less value. An idea or statement has the same value, no matter who says it. Call LEEJUN all you wan't but Anonymous posting is one of the things that makes this site the way it is. When you post anonymously and make a mistake and say something you didn't mean or that was wrong because you misread, it doesn't take away from your credibility later. Sure, that works both ways, but that's just part of the system. I post with a trip on occasion, but the majority of the time, I post as Anonymous, simply because I am still free to do so. Personally, I fell that If you haven't done something noteworthy (See: the tripfags who wrote 4chanX and Appchan, the falcon, and a few others), I think you should just stay anonymous.

As hard as it is to believe, Apple actually do make some great stuff. They've turned out a few turds too, though. Like Apple TV and the iPod Hi-fi (these are some of my favourite examples; I have more).

/g/ just can't stand anyone even trying to be objective. I do use a Mac, but have no concern about what others use so long as they use it for good and enjoy it. I'm overtly pro-Mac because:

1. It's fucking hil-aaaaa-rious (it is)
2. Most posters on /g/ are so overtly Apple-hating for no reason, that even some Jobs-worshiping posts barely tips the scales back to objectivity. You need someone to play Devil's advocate, even if /g/ itself is Satanic

IMO they facilitate meaningful discussion. When you can see that you are responding and conversing with "someone" throughout a thread it becomes much easier to rationally respond. When everyone is "anonymous" it gets hard to maintain that thread of conversation, as everyone else's opinion is intermingling with yours. You're going to get misquoted and posts will be misidentified.

Which is why I use a name. Within the context of a conversation I think it's of great use.

But the concept of a "tripcode" as a way to get "e-rep" on 4chan completely destroys the culture that the userbase has created around the site. That's the reason for "tripfag hate". Not fear.
