Alienware is actually pretty terrible, they are loud and overheat, and are heavy. And the customer service is _terrible_.

I don't really know about Sony, or Acer being in "God Tier". Asus really should go up there.

Definitely put IBM/Lenovo up in God tier, above the rest, because frankly they make the best laptops. IBM produces the best products in the industry in general honestly.

OP here as already stated I missed Lenovo out of God Tier, I think they're the only company who're competing with Apple at present.

I based my opinions on laptops I've used for demonstrations and played about with in the shop.

I also own a MacBook Pro and used to have a Compaq, so there may be a slight amount of bias.

Out of all the laptop brands Lenovo I would say has the highest customer satisfaction, though I'm not sure about Apple as think a lot of people take theirs to the local Apple Store if they have problems.

People argue the case for a Hackintosh but I still think you don't get the same experience.
    >> Anonymous 10/05/11(Wed)15:30 No.20397779
Parts-wise, the Macbook and Macbook Pro lines are not "god-tier". They use inferior parts and cut corners that companies like Lenovo, Sony, and Dell simply do not. Their reputation comes from their outstanding warranty service and their willingness to replace the shit parts if and when they malfunction, but this does not make their products good, it simply makes their lax efforts tolerable to the average consumer. This, combined with industry-leading interface devices, sets Apple apart. Their laptops though are not fundamentally 'good' in the same rite as Lenovo or Dell's are.

This coming from a guy who fixes computers for a living and has taken apart several examples of each. The most rugged and the most thoughtfully designed laptop in terms of cooling that I've ever disassembled was a Dell Inspiron 8100 from around 2001. Damn fine machine. I'm recycling it tomorrow, sorry to see it go.

I think the good thing about Macs is that the retain their value so well and compared to other brands where they're worth half as much by the time you leave the shop after a couple of years you'll still get a fair price for a Mac.
So upgrading isn't actually that pricey if you were to do it once a year you could probably get the newest version of your model by selling it and then adding $200.

Some of the more recent ones are "spill-resistant" because they don't have drain holes but I have no clue what that means as I haven't tried it.

Have poorfag 400$ budget for laptop
Buy Lenovo G570 because its the best option at office depot.

    Go home, reinstall os.
See x120 and dm3 for cheaper, both are more portable and cheaper.

Go to office depot.com the next day, Lenovo G570 is now $100 off.

    Does anyone own a G570?

I'm thinking of getting the following:

Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 2.7 with Turbo Boost)
    750GB HDD
    6GB RAM
    1GB AMD 6370
    Blu-Ray Drive

    £570 is it worth it?

Could scrap the Blu-Ray and HDD down to 640GB for £500

    Thoughts?

Is the G570 a ThinkPad? If not I think it's from the low-end Lenovo range. It sounds like a good spec though.
