>looking into university accommodation>'internet is provided for educational purposes with most gaming ports blocked'oh god what, can someone elaborate on this? Does this mean I will be unable to play most games online? IS THERE A CHANCE I'LL GET INTO SHIT FOR PIRATING?
Live off campus.
Ed is not a little boyEd is a little girl
>>19474057This. I did. It's easy. I'm in the UK though.
If you're doing a degree and have time to play online games, you're doing a fucking shitty degree you fucking pleb. You go to uni to better yourself, not fag around stealing shitty movies and collecting hats in tf2.
>>19474086Why would I just completely abandon my hat hoarding interests?
If you don't spend most of your time chasing tail in college, you will end up regretting it - guaranteed. Stop while you're ahead and get your priorities straight.
>internet is provided for educational purposes with most gaming ports blockedThat's fucking absurd. Would they take every non-educational book out of the library and remove all provisions for personal interests whilst they're at it?
What the fuck is going on here
>cant change the port number
My college blocks the ports for Steam, so most of those games I can't play online, but it leaves open WoW ports.AND IT FUCKING PISSES ME OFF
>>19474126For something like Diablo it can't be changed, can it? To even play that online ports have to be forwarded
>not building a 100$ computer, loading up some gentoo, loading some ssh onto it, silently putting it in parent's basement, and connecting to it through ssh to tunnel your connection whenever you want to play vidyas
>>19474169OP here, I'd actually leave the accommodation if that was the case. I use Steam for group chats more than games.

>>19474111No, you go to college to get an education and learn. If you go around chaising tail and not getting good grades you will regret it.
>>19474174>cant into hexediting binariesdurrrrrrr.you are not worth of a neckbeard.
It's extremely common for Universities to do this, particularly in the UK where JANET (the network that connects all higher education institutions) forbids anybody using it for games/porn/pirating/etc.>>19474188This guy hits the nail on the head. If you can't do this because your parents would turn it off or some nonesense, then rent a server somewhere outside your uni & tunnel all your gaymen traffic through that. Ask for $5 from each of your friends for an account on the server so they can do the same - it'll cover the rental costs & maybe even make you some extra beer money.
>>19474198I don't live there, but it would be nice for killing time between classes or on breaks or whatever
>>19474086Theres plenty of time to take shit seriously when you're dead.
>>19474188>>19474217Can you please explain how to do this/where to rent a server? I have to put down a deposit very soon if I'm going to at all.
>>19474248Google.
>>19474209Nope. I went to college, chased tail and have no regrets at all. Never again will you be surrounded by so many people in their prime. You can have a very active sex-life and still get good grades. I knew lost of bros like me too, and none of us were greek.People like you litter campuses though. That's fine with me. It's not my life.
