My gf that I live with just won the lottery. She said that I can have $6250 dollars to build my "dream" computer. I don't even know where to fucking begin. I am guessing I could get 3 top end GPUs and cross fire them. Post builds /g/ that will cost that much.

Build good pc, save money for upgrades since spending
that much money in one go in such a fast-paced market
    is utter folly.

    Say:
    25/600k
    8GB DDR3
    Rice mobo
Fucking rice case (since this won't go obsolete)
120GB SSD for OS & programs
Couple of 1TB Blacks in RAID
    Whatever card you want
    1000+W PSU for upgrades
Maybe some sort of unconventional cooling if that's your kind of thing.

    >> Anonymous 07/19/11(Tue)17:09 No.18878159
    i5 2500k
    2x 6970s
    100+GB SSD
1TB Samsung F3 Spinpoint (add more spinpoints if you think you'll need more storage)
    850w PSU
    HAF X case

That'll probably run you $2k-3k (on paper it'll look to be about $2k, but then you get all these extra costs that no one ever bothers to list that'll probably push it up to $3k). Take the rest of the money and invest in three IPS monitors for eyefinity (I'd recommend the Dell U2311H but you can splurge on an S-IPS or H-IPS panel instead if you want) and a surround sound system. The immersion will blow you away with that setup. You can also invest in a nice flight stick, racing wheel, etc. if you're into those genres. Make sure to get an X360 controller for your PC as well.

Then save whatever you have left over for future upgrades. I wouldn't really recommend going above two flagship GPUs just because of driver and compatibility issues. Tri-fire/SLI might be okay, but I've heard nothing but bad things about quad-fire/SLI.

    Good, good.
You might want to look into a good sound system rather than a $1000 chair.
Some good compact speakers will make a nice 2.0 system with decent enough sound, but I guess if you love the deepest bass, you're going to want a sub as well.
And then you'll need some units to power that stuff, of course.

A top-notch desk is probably $500 depending on how much of a handyman you are.

The 590 is only better in a few titles and on low resolution (if you can call ~1920x1080 "low").
On multimonitor and really high resolution monitors then the 6990 is better.

    >PCI-e SSDs
    >RAID them
Learn something about SSDs before you recommend them. PCI-e SSDs and any kind of SSD used in RAID cannot use TRIM, which pretty much negates the entire fucking point of an SSD.

    >1 IPS 16:10 panel, 2 TN 16:9 side monitors
And this is just stupid. The screens are different aspect ratios/resolutions so now he has to deal with black bars or screen distortion on the center screen. And if you're going to mix together TN and IPS panels it should be the other way around. IPS should be on the sides since they have better viewing angles and TN should be in the center since they have such shit viewing angles.

    Canadian, Ontario specifically

Dental isn't covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan. Even if some dental procedures are covered in other countries, I doubt the many cosmetic procedures are. Thus, dental is always considered private sector.

Can you really blame anyone in our generation for doing that? We've seen people get screwed out of their life savings and careers TWICE now (dotcom bubble burst and now the Great Recession). For anyone under 30 investments probably look like a giant scam, and honestly I wouldn't call that entirely inaccurate considering the small gains you're likely to make at best as a middle class investor.

You could easily spend $6,000+ on a PC. 2600K, 4 GTX580s, 16GB+ RAM, 2 large Sandforce II SSDs, 2-4 3TB storage drives, 1200w PSU, nice expensive case, water cooling, 2-3 30" monitors.

PC hardware progression has slowed down considerably. Spending a ton of money on a PC used to be silly as it'd be outdated quickly; however, that's not the case anymore. I spent $2,500 on a PC 3 years ago and it's still extremely fast. If I upgraded the graphic cards (2 GTX285s) it'd be like a brand-new high-end system.

tl;dr: Don't let the poorfags tell you that you only need to spend $1,000 on a PC. Spend $1,000 on a PC and it WILL be outdated within a year. Spend more and it won't.
