She left the charger plugged in the side of the computer and then stuffed it in a tight neoprene case. There is a crack in the case now, right next to the dc jack. I assumed the dc connecter had just cracked off the mother board and was just gonna resolder it back on, but it looks good, the charger tested out good and I don't see any lose wires.

I don't know what to look for now shy of replacing the entire motherboard to get this thing to power up again.

I know that there are point-and-shoots with reasonable manual modes out there, but they're only about 100€ cheaper than this one (mind you, I've had it for a while, too.). They usually are quite limited in their optics, too; I can't recall ever seeing a point-and-shoot with more than three steps for setting the f-value.

Since I'm rarely on the move when I take pictures, I prefer a low-end DSLR over a high-end point-and-shoot, if only for the feel of it.
