!!42M0wSt2dkX 06/23/11(Thu)05:43 No.18328311If you want to use encryption to prevent police from gathering data from your hard drive:
Get Truecrypt. Install
Truecrypt, encrypting your whole hard drive so that it will not boot
without a password. Even with Linux security tools, you cannot access
the files on the drive without the password without exponential amounts
of time (on the order of quadrillions of years).
Memorize a few
sentences to use as your password. Make it an original sentence, not a
quote. Do not forget this password, as it will brick your drive.
Hook your computer up so that all components are connected to a single power strip.
If you suspect that law enforcement is approaching your home, flip the power switch on the strip off immediately.
If
you want to be very protected, don't leave your computer powered on and
leave the room. You may not have enough time to power it off if you are
in the bathroom.
Use a screensaver that forces the entry of a password to resume, if you are less worried.
For extra security: NEVER hibernate your computer. This
dumps the RAM into memory on your computer, which, with forensic
analysis, can be recovered, forfeiting your password if the drive is
found decrypted at any point (say, you left it on while you were in the
kitchen and the feds came in through the front door.)
Do not
reveal your password to anyone, especially through electronic
communication protocol, which could be monitored by LEOs, feds, CIA,
NSA, or DHS. They could also be using someone close to you to get you to
reveal the password through trust.
That's about it /g/, happy CP. Just kidding. |
