I never cared what people thought of me. I did my thing (sit at home all day) and life went on just fine.

I dunno. But I have no qualms with being called a geek. (Nerd on the other hand...)

I was maybe 12 at the time, and knew very little. But that was the starting point. Since then, hello computers.

I have to say, when people call me a geek, its a compliment to me. Nerd on the other hand, hell no. Thats offensive.

And now Im a self employed computer engineer/network admin.

Early in life i was trying to define an identity. I would see that "Hacker" character in the movies and say, "I want to be that guy." The line between when i was wanting/pretending to be a nerd/geek and when i actually became one is pretty blurry. But i would say around 11.

I am not a "nerd" and or "geek."

I suddenly felt lonely! I still remember that particular day in school!
A year later or so i came across the definition of nerd an geek. Nerd sounded like me.

I been messing around with computers since 1976. I program in C++. I build and sell computers. I fix computers for friends only. I rode my first bike in '62. I rode a 1951 BSA to High School. for me it was around 11 when I found it fun to mess with my windows xp settings and playing video games all day every day. then i started messing with warez a year later and it was all downhill from there.

I was maybe 5, typing cd and dir into a dos prompt, and a relative exclaimed 'wow, you're good at that!` or something.

I've always like reading and alone time. Learning the definition of 'nerd' / 'geek' didn't really change the way I perceived myself.

Fifth grade. I finished math tests in 3 minutes with 100% correct answers while everyone else took 20-30 minutes and nobody else ever got 100%. As you may have noticed from the preceding statements, grammar was not my strong suit.

What exactly is a "nerd" nowadays? When I was in high school it was the guy with the long hair and dark sense of humor who played magic and a lot of video games.

When i got excited about fixing an old pc i had in the shed.
