I went in to NGE with no expectations except that I'd stumbled across the name for years on end and knew it was generally extremely highly regarded.

When I started it, was just thinking for the first half or so, "Fuck yeah cool, novel giant-robot story." Second half and movie blind-sided me. Probably why it had so much impact.

Normally when someone suggests media relating to the human condition I'm like "Nup, fuck that" and watch The Expendables or something.

I have many doubts i will enjoy it. I am not in this shounen power level titles. I dropped Naruto and Bleach. In case of Naruto, there were some good parts but horrible fillers. I watched 220 eps of original and about 50 eps of Shippuden. In case of Bleach, i enjoyed Soul Society arc, but dropped it next episode after filler started, main story was planted and trolling ended. I still need to try One Piece as well.

The manga Gantz, MPD Psycho, and the anime Gurren Lagann really had an impact on me, and made me want to become the strongest man on the planet.

Shimon at the end of the second movie made me want to become bigger than ever too.

I like Ghost in the shell,
Ghost in the shell has 2 serries, those are good, the movies are so so. Download the series, pay attention to the order and clues on the titles. I didn't the first time, then on the 2nd and 3rd, everything suddenly made so much more sense.

Anyways, most of the time I read manga skip anime, let my imagination fill in the blank. Pay attention on the type of anime/manga you like and find the similar type/demographic. I like seinen, can't stand shoujo, my friend like shounen and shoujo. It's a matter of taste and such. There are learning mangas too, I like those.

Anyhow, this is /fit/ SQUATZ and OATZ.

Greetings, /fit/. /a/non here. I would like to clear up the myth that /a/ only watches so called "moe" series.

It is entirely possible for a person to enjoy both serious shows and light hearted shows with moe elements, which I can confidently say that a large portion of us do.

Of course, as with any fanbase, there will be groups of people with widely varied tastes. Certainly there are groups on /a/ who have a preference for cute and funny shows, and there are groups who simply cannot stand them.

The tastes of /a/'s regulars most certainly cover a wide spectrum, and although the board does display a distinctive emphasis on bishoujo characters, this is not our sole reason for watching anime. You can find bishoujo characters in almost any series. And when certain series have been discussed into the ground, (i.e., everything that isn't currently airing for us) the appeal of bishoujo characters is never diminished.

Anyway, I just wanted to try to improve our image. It's not like I'm posting here because I like you or anything.

Bleach- if marathoned is a damn good read/watch.

It's the story of a young boy who wishes he could help all these spirits that he has been able to see since he was born.
In a sudden turn of events he gains that power, but from then on it's a massive rollercoaster of emotions and morals.
With progressively stronger enemies appearing, forcing that boy to grow ever stronger.
Even pushing him as far to the brink of death, beyond and making him sacrifice his sanity for more power.
Then as he is completely destroyed he returns fueled by killer instinct and malice.
He kills his enemy and after a rather famous one-liner proceeds to take on the final boss.
His efforts prove futile and after a shocking revelation it's made known that he has been nothing but a pawn from the moment he was born.

The final boss goes beyond reason and ascends to become a god and then proceeds to the protag's hometown to destroy it.

After having mastered his power during the course of 6 months (which was only 2 hours in the real world) the protag returns and destroys the final boss, but the final boss is constantly regenerating and growing stronger each time.
So in one single act of self-sacrifice the protag gives up all his power in one single attack and finally beats the final boss.

Then it's shown that the final boss wasn't the final boss after all and that he was actually a good guy.
