Alright /fa/, I've been through all 15 pages and I've learned that pea coats are awesome, pea coats suck, and everyone wants a hitler youth haircut.

What I have not found is a way for a fashion challenged female to learn BASIC fashion. The Internet assumes being female I have some innate knowledge of clothes and shit, which I don't. Anybody know where I can learn fashion for females starting from the absolute beginning?

Pic is me on a typical day.

just work on your personal brand,
    wear the season's fashionable staples
but put your own spin on it
right now you look like you just blend in

There are a handful of womens guides in /rs/. Besides that you could take a peek into Chictopia or some other womens fashion community. Lookbook sucks ass so I advise you to stay away from there.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:47 No.3824121
Google womenswear. There are nearly a million blogs and websites that have information directed at you. 4chan archives has a few threads with information if you don't feel like getting mindfucked with the flood of information.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:49 No.3824124
As a heterosexual male I would recommend you don't tie your hair in a pony tail.

It makes 99% of women look worse.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:50 No.3824125
Advice about this for women is EVERYWHERE. It's almost exclusively the only thing that's ever marketed directly towards women. If you can't find resources on women's fashion, there is nothing we can do for you.

I can find PLENTY of resources, but none that make a lot of sense. They talk about body shapes, but no one tells me how to figure out what body shape I have, for example.

    >>3824124
Don't know what else to do with it. Ponytails are easy.

Well, if you stand against a wall and have someone outline your body, that would be your body shape.

Start with the hoodie. It's comfy, so I wear it a lot. What exactly is bad about it? What would you recommend instead?
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:59 No.3824147
oversized hoodie and a random t-shirt with average jeans is just boring. The oversized hoodie has to be thought carefully or it's better to avoid it.

Ponytail is easy but you should try to leave your hair free and find some way to make it look good that way.

Also body shape is not difficult to guess, just google image it and see what you are.

Start by wearing consistent outfits, even if they're just hoodies pullovers t-shirts tank tops and jeans.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:59 No.3824148
what you haven't done however is read the wealth of information contained within the /rs/ section of this website

Cardigans, shawls, even parkas and bubble coats are a much better alternative.

Oversized Hoodies make ANY girl look like she got cold at a Nascar rally her redneck dad took her to. Terrible idea.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)16:05 No.3824159
OP seems like she has a somewhat ideal body type, although can't really tell how wide her hips are.

I almost don't want to give this advice because it's boring, but I'd say OP should start by going to Forever 21 and H & M and finding things she likes and trying them on.

Go check out lookbook.nu and the sartorialist for general ideas on what looks acceptable on young women.

I'd prefer to find a list of things I should like, and then go get those things. I have a hard time with ambiguity, and don't trust my opinions with clothes.

I would recommend the OP to do anything but these.

Do you consider yourself a tomboy?

Start wearing black skinny jeans and an extra small boys v-neck shirt. Cut your hair and dye it black. Start wearing black heel'd boots and shoes. And fix your posture.

Something similar to the guy (yes, that's a guy) in this picture, but less ostentatious.

What a fool that person looks.

It's sunny, he? it's wearing sunglasses and that retraded rick owensesque scarf.

I wouldn't suggest dressing like that unless you want to be seen as a filthy hipster.

Yeah, tomboy works for me. I'm not pretty enough to be a girl, don't know how to dress or use make up.

Something I've always wondered, what do you do with the ends of skinny jeans? Tuck them into your shoes?

If you're wearing them with boots- yes.
If not, never. Just try to get pants that stop at your ankle.

Meh, they're newbie sites that are good places to begin.

OP, as a general rule, women should avoid sportswear and use layering for warmth. Buy a knit scarf and a neutral sweater. Get a trench coat. Khaki trenches are classic and black trenches are more modern.

Depending on the shoe. Sneakers and boots (specifically black) are what you want to wear with skinny jeans. I usually pull my pants over my boots for slim fitting jeans, and vice versa for my very skinny jeans.

Freja Beha (pic) is what you want.
