It really depends, I go to different places for different things, but the department stores are actually not bad, DJs and what not, they can just be a bit pricey.

AA has pretty good fitting shirts, I got a few from General Pants actually which were good, comfy and fit well, plus decent colours, they are selling at $40 for 2 at the moment.

But yeah for button down shirts DJs, Myer, or random other places like the ones you mentioned are good, RD, Oxford, whatever.

It is hard in Aus I know, not much choice, high prices, we just have to make do :P

I think I bought a couple of cheap v-necks from GP that've served me pretty well over the last year or so. Most casual/streetwear type shops are inconsistent enough that they're usually worth a look if you're already out shopping. They're also usually clumped close together in shopping centres, too, so (once you've had a leisurely browse through DJs and Myer) it couldn't hurt to drop in to these other shops (half of which sell their gear through department stores anyway - more than once, I've picked up a pair of Industrie pants in DJs and then walked straight past an Industrie shop on my way out the door).

I did some work for a rich guy who set up a bunch of shops around Australia selling cheap clothes, sort of Cotton On-tier. They just source their stuff from wherever; it changes as styles change.

tl;dr: most places are worth a look if you're not after anything really, really specific.
