Chavs are a mixture of White Trash (The scum on the ass of the USA, basically every negative USA stereotype) and Guidos (Very egotistical). While the USA doesn't have an exact Chav counterpart, it's close.

Australian (sydney) here, they're called lads. And not only are they white, but they come from good suburbs with good schools - so they're just people who like to act like ass. They typically wear nautica polos, nike shorts, bum-bags and sneakers. I would have no qualms if they suddenly 'disappeared'.

Originally I read your post and the post you replied to and agreed with you, but then I realised who the first post was actually talking about.

Lately in Brisbane (can't speak for the rest of Australia) there has been a rise in people I consider to look somewhat similar to the medias portrayal of a chav.
They wear:
-gym pants (normally 3/4, sometimes shorter)
-polo shirts (sometimes popping the collar)
-usually have a bum bag across their chest diagonally (for what reason they consider that cool I will never know)
-a sport branded cap which they curve the brim of (usually adidas)
-Joggers
-Generally short hair with a rats tail or just generic soccer hooligan hair.

A bogan however under my definition (I come from an area very well known for it's bogan-ness) will wear:
-Anything unit/monster/fox. There are other brands but I've lost track of them all.
-Own a commodore ute or any type of car that is 'fully sick'. Sometimes a ford fairlaine.
-Have some form of southerncross tattoo.
There are a lot more characteristics to bogans that just don't spring to mind yet everyone knows when they see them..
Essentially what I am trying to say is I perceive lads and bogans to be separate cultures

Ukrainian guy here. Thanks to the efforts of Soviet authority, when every 3-4 man or woman was in jail, where poor working class and lack of normal education was a norm of everydays life, we can see now those boys and girls acting like a little gangs, spending days and nights on street, siiting on a benches, drinking cheap shitty beer or beermixes, talking about soccer, cars (for example, why russian cars are better that any others; goddamn, cause you shitheads dont have money to buy something better), spreading gossips about each other and their so-called friends.

This sort of people is usually called gopnik (гопник) or bydlo (быдло) and there is another word, jlobi (жлобы) but personally, i think it is outdated.
Gopniks are agressive form of bydlo, so not all bydlo are gopniks, but all gopniks are bydlo. They are talking loud, use much of filthy language (yup, i know )

Guy from moscow reporting in. Nowdays you can see gopnicks very rarely on the street, however there s been a rise of people that can be described as combination of Hooligans, chavs and skinheads. They usually wear fake fred perry(i even stopped wearing fred perry because they wear it, even though i like it), nike airmax, carhart, thor steiner and sometimes if you wear those brands there is a chance they beat you up, because in their opinion you do not deserve to wear these brands.
Another type of douchebags are called glamurnoe(glamour's meaning is really fucked up in russia, basically it means bad taste in fashion, often wearing fake d and g, armani, dsquared, etc., wearing clothes with large brand print) bidlo. In the nineties in Belgium (well, Flanders, at least) we used to call guys like that a "John" and a girl like that "Marina". Because at that time, those names sounded very trashy, especially when pronounced by the individuals themselves. They dressed pretty chavvy, displayed antisocial behaviour and blasted shitty hardcore techno. Preferred brands were Lonsdale and Fred Perry, I think. Also, trackie bottoms.

The "Marina" thing died out, but "John" is still used to describe a macho fuckwad with a tuned car, spiked hair and way too much investment in his appearance. Kind of a chav/guido mix. Shitty techno music still very much the thing.
