that's an odd way to put it-
but yeah it's because often wires like to get snagged and then ruined when you stand up/shift. i can actually remember the last time it happened to me was in a rush i threw mine around my shouldersn it managed to drape long enough that it went down into the the little crevice around the seat belt and get snagged. standing up to get out of the car? dead cable

i started doing this in high school a long time ago with my cd player to make it less obvious i had one, though. now its just to avoid ruining another $35 pair of earbuds
