    Hey /fa/

Swedfag here i was wondering what average income for americans between 20 to 30 years old

How much do you have to make to be considered rich.

i dunno what the average is.. but I'd say you'd have to make over 200k yearly to be considered upper middle class.. completely relative though.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/10(Sun)02:24 No.2087203
4000 is average i think..it really depends where you live.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/10(Sun)02:26 No.2087212
my friend's dad makes 150k a year, he calls it upper-middle class. but i mean, they have a 1 story 2 bedroom house in santa ana (poor city full of minorities and potholes), 1 car (a scion with special ordered leather seats), still uses a projector tv, smelly furniture from the 70's and 80's. but they shop at those whole foods places where your groceries would cost 1/4 of the price at albertsons
    >> Anonymous 05/02/10(Sun)02:27 No.2087213
It is entirely dependent upon where you live in the nation. For instance, the cost of living is extremely high in Northern Virginia while it is extremely low in Pittsburgh.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/10(Sun)02:29 No.2087218
Depends, i live in NYC i think average person with a good college degree makes about $8,000 a month.

Rich would be i guess $20,000+ a month.

true, so i guess 150k for "rich" isn't a good description. maybe by about 250k and upward?

What the fuck are you talking about? The cost of living is drastically different everywhere, mostly because of real estate, but other factors play a huge role.

You are a completely glib idiot who has no idea what he's talking about.
    >> howardhughes !FUcuUcWCc. 05/02/10(Sun)02:57 No.2087295
    >>2087274
Yeah I guess. 250k+ I'd say is "rich" compared to the majority, but I still think that's quite a ways from actually being rich.

150k a year for one person is a lot, in my opinion. that's definitely upper middle class. If spent wisely you could live extremely comfortable on that just about anywhere in the U.S.

I meant it was smart in the sense that while they can afford to drive BMW's and live in a big house near the beach and be chained to debt and interest rates for their entire lives they choose to live well within their means.. unlike most of America.

ya, they're definitely in a comfort zone. they afford to eat nicely and watch tv for many hours of the day, and it shows. people don't need to be rich to be comfortable. just enough to have nearly no financial worries.

funny, cuz my friend always complains about his parents being jews, and not paying off his credit card, and not buying him a laptop. but it sounds like if they weren't jews, they might have taken that huge mortgage on the house by the beach, and the BMW 7 series for 700/month. and they might have defaulted by the time all the market crashes were happening. so, i guess they are pretty smart

What about how much gas you have to use to get to work daily? What food you buy is dictated by your location as well. And how about property taxes (if your a home owner)?

And these bills aren't the same everywhere. In places where there's serious shortages, things become more expensive. See California, for example.

You can make 300k a year and still be upper class, or you could make 5 million a year and be middle class. It all depends on who you are.

100k a year is middle class. I'd say. Anything a little above or below is upper and lower middle class. Below that poverty. Above that, upper class.

300k is rich to me. My boyfriend's dad makes that much and lives, what is to me, a stupidly extravagant lifestyle. I grew up in a household that makes about 60,000 combined a year. And i've grown up around people whose households never made more than 150k.

Money gives you the opportunity to educate yourself. It's up to you.

No, even when someone from the lower classes manages to strike it rich they will still take their lower class values and mannerisms with them. That stuff they can never get rid of. And the true upper class can smell it miles away.

Haha, the only people that get this butthurt are the people barely one generation removed from the hoi polloi they claim to despise. Logically it follows that someone actually blue-blooded wouldn't feel as threatened as you do

i tend to agree with this statement, however its not always true. every once in a while you get somebody from the lower class who works hard to become what everyone around them is not and they end up a respectable person with good values.

i come from a dirt poor family but hated it and aspired to become someone who is respected. got my MD and now fit in amongst upper class snobs in country clubs, they being none the wiser of my pig disgusting roots

    i ashamed

wow, I'm currently starting out with IM and will spend the whole next month implementing methods every day, as I have nothing to do for the next 4 weeks.

How long did it take you to reach the 150k-ish per year?

This bullshit needs to stop, immediately. Evidently, some trashy kid with a rich family is really into trying to show off his e-penis on here.

    1. The average income is ridiculously low. When it all boils down to it, the majority of Americans are incredibly, incredibly poor.
    2. Because of this, "middle class" is something around $40-60k/yr. I'm not exaggerating -- this is how much most rely upon, and it's pretty standard. This is not being poor, either -- you can make a good living on this.
    3. Upper middle probably begins around $90k and up. This is a pretty big swath, of course, but you'd be surprised at how few people earn above this. Most of the population (nearly 75% of it) is under this.
    4. Above the $90k is the upper-middle and upper class, and the line between them is largely irrelevant, but I'd personally place the defining line at $150k or so, which would place the average Congressman in the upper class. Remember, monthly income is also complicated by savings one sits on.

But yeah, all you kids need to calm the fuck down. If you're rich, congrats. But your income lording is trashy.
