  • /mu/'s favorite bro deadmau5 is hanging out here: http://boards.4chan.org/mu/res/21004009

Two of three migrations down, one to go. Expect some short downtime tomorrow afternoon or evening. Site should be much faster already.
Feedback welcome on AIM at SN "MOOTCHAT"

Server migration complete. New hardware brought online should make things noticeably faster. Enjoy!
PS: Some more goodies coming later this week.

Gold is fun to have and it's in most streams in the states where they had gold rushes and stuff.

This is a quartz vein. This is what I look for when I'm out looking for gold. I think the quartz is what mixed it up when the earth was formed or whatever.

This is where I like to dig for dirt to put in my gold pan. When the river was flooding it rushed over this rock, (it's bedrock). So I filled up my pan with my little garden shovel.

The actual act of panning is kinda hard to explain but there are many youtube video's on it. This is what was left over after I panned it. The "black sand" is a very heavy sand that tends to be around where gold is.

This is what I had left when I finished panning out the black sand. You can see the tiny gold specks. I dug down much deeper and had a little better results.

    Sure it isn't tin?

The bottle with the red cap is called a snuffer bottle. You squeeze it and place the tip in the pan and suck out the gold. This is how much I have after 2 days of just screwing around. It's about as much as a pencil eraser.

A local guy buys it for 60% of the actual value. He still has to clean it further. If you get an ounce it's worth around $1771.00 today. He will give you $1062.00.

I can usually get an ounce or 2 a year. I've only been doing it for a couple of years. What I have in the little jar is all for this year. I wait until winter when the water goes down.

This is a picture of when I first started. The pan belongs to the guy who was showing me how to pan. He's real good at spotting places where gold tends to settle in the water.
    >> Anonymous 11/09/11(Wed)19:16 No.61148
We have a lot of people who do that out here
Black Hills Gold man, I should see about getting started doing this.

My wife and I actually did a gold panning thing when we were on our Alaskan cruise. It was pretty awesome just digging in a stream and actually finding gold.

Too bad I live in the bayous and gold is nowhere to be found.
    >> Anonymous 11/09/11(Wed)20:58 No.61259
We've been mining for a long time, by now shouldn't the streets be paved in it? Who eats the gold? Can't all be circuit boards, bling teeth, sadam AKs right?
    >> Anonymous 11/09/11(Wed)21:01 No.61262
you could always do what this guy does.

All the gold ever mined by mankind fits in a 20m(66ft) high cube.

    First hit on google, dude.

Interesting fact: has the gold on the surface been formed when the earth was, it would have been sucked down to the core long ago. The vast majority of the gold you find is actually from meteorites.

Anywho - is this possible to do in Michigan? Always looked really fun. Someone posted a few pictures of their pan, and a few bottles, but do you have any tips for other equipment? And where to find what you have?

They still wouldn't account for the amount we have - had none of it come from outer space, we would have gold in the thousandths of what we do now.

neato. even found a probably reliable link.

This is why Death Star technology needs to be worked on. For other planets, of course.
