  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

Irvine is in Orange County. Huge difference.

    OP,

Make sure to visit your local food drives and homeless shelters, they will never turn down anyone for a free meal. Stick near those places to makes sure you always have some resources, they will also have emergency medical aid if needed.

Use your better judgements friend, tr your best to stay out of trouble.

find somewhere warm and dry on a night.

keep your wallet somewhere that nobody can find it

get a padlock, a carabiner and some wire rope. Padlock the wire rope to your backpack and use the carabiner to clip the wire rope to your beltloops when sleeping. stops people running off with your backpack.

erm... when i was sleeping rough i used to use public libraries as somewhere safe to sleep during the day. Mcdonalds will let you sit in all day if you buy a coffee and don't smell too bad.

try and find somewhere secure for overnight. Seriously; this should be number 1 priority.

and be prepared to be cold. the first night's the worst.

While living off of the value meal at McDonald's would kill a normal middle-class American, I think it would be fine for someone like you who is living on the bottom rung of society.

You can always beg the normal way (ie. "Ninjas killed my family; need money for karate lessons", "Bit by werewolf, need money for silver bullets before next full moon.") or you can be honest. If I were homeless, I'd make a sign saying, "Need $1.10 for a burger." If I saw someone with that sign I would just give them a couple of bucks. I recommend getting the money and then promptly retrieving your burger. You should be able to get three square meals like this.

If you have any money, gym memberships will help with you getting a shower and staying presentable. I would also try taking short naps during the day, maybe at a library like the other guy said, and then try to bus tables at Denny's for free/near free/minimum wage/free food at night. That will keep you out of the cold and out of the scary darkness.

I really recommend staying indoors at night simply because that lack of sleep, the constant fear of being mauled by another hobo, the penetrating cold, etc. is what I see driving people farther down the path to madness. Stay at Denny's or another all night establishment.

If you shower during the day you should be able to do this. And get a hat because your hair is going to get long and disturbing. Also, shave when you can. Only use clean razor blades. You can use free gel soap as shaving cream if you must.

Good luck dude... Can I ask how this happened to you?

Most homeless bums try to stay someplace dark and alone to keep away from the public eye and away from any harassment. But once those bums are found by the wrong individual, they get the beating of their lives with no one around to witness, much less intervene.

There's a fairly busy intersection in the suburbs near LA where a bum sleeps every night sitting in a lawnchair covered head to toe with a blanket and tarp. He sleeps on the sidewalk, right on the corner in front of a gas station (you know how bright those gas stations are). If anyone fucks with him, there are sure to be witnesses; so no one fucks with him. Right across the street on the south side is a county hospital routinely patrolled by emergency workers and police. Across on the east side is a Jack in the Box with a 24 hr drive through, with the drive through window having a clear view of the bum. Opposite the bum's gas station is another well lit gas station.

It's an eye sore to look at sometimes, but he's probably the smartest and generally safest of all the bums in all of the south land.

No one is going to outright fuck with him in plain sight like that. I'm not sure how police or property managers in that intersection feel about him. He minds his own business and they just let him be. However, just the other day a bum that used to live in the shadows near an overpass recently got his shit torn up. Just something to consider.

Fuck that. Leave city, go innawoods. Animals are a shitton less dangerous than those of your own species. Just stay off the ground, build an enclosed shelter, and you're safe from them. Save/use the rest of the little money you have left and buy a book on how to build with natural resources, and a few yet sturdy essential tools. You want these to last a while, so don't get some flimsy pos. Honestly, these things can get quite fun if you get creative with them. http://www.survival-spot.com/survival-blog/9-unique-alternative-housing-ideas/ Has a ton of ideas and links to at least get you started. And of course, browse amazon for books as well. "Alernative homes" "DIY houses" or something like that. Good luck to you.

Couch surfing is my vote if you have four or five friends who wouldn't mind putting you up for a few days. It's safe, you're in good company, have hot water, and a shower.

Store most of your shit in a self-storage unit, keep a backpack with a few pairs of clothes, towels, hygiene supplies, and some books or something for your down time. Swap out your clothes from your storage unit when you need to, and do laundry at a Laundromat.

Don't argue, don't make noise, don't make a mess, keep your stuff confined to your backpack when not in use, don't overstay your welcome, don't mooch off your friends, don't use their stuff without asking, throw them a few bucks afterward even if it's just a 5'er.
    >> Anonymous 05/03/12(Thu)11:49 No.210304
    Common recommendations for hygene:

Truck stops will often have pay-per-use showers for out-of-town truckers. Check the industrial parts of town.

If you've got the money, buy a monthly gym membership. You'll then get free access to their showers, changing rooms, etc.

Neat guide. $1 for a bottle of shampoo will double as a bar of soap. Shampoo is a decent bodywash.
Dumpster diving is GREAT. Especially in places like dollar stores where they throw out unsold stuff for quick shelf turnover. I found a CRATE of melted candy once, guess the truck wasn't insulated well. If you're sociable enough, everything is currency. Barter is beautiful.
Chipping in and feeding a dozen people is cheaper per-head than going solo. Last-day meat from a local butcher comes by the POUND, be friendly and ask and you can feed your posse right. Bread outlets are also cool.
Kool-aid(not the plastic shit. Buy packets) will make a bottle of water slightly more drinkable, sweeten with either packets from restaurants or nothing, it's still better than water all day everyday. Also that shit is made of citric acid(vitamin C yo). Keep healthy.
Volunteering can get you a room to sleep in even if you don't get paid. Find your local charity/thrift store/church and say you'll haul crap for a room and you're gold. They're nice people, be nice to them.

Lots of restaurants don't turn off their external power at night, want to recharge some batteries? Same goes for landline phones, if you have a 3/8ths socket you can pop anybody's grey phonebox and wire a phone into somebody's lines.... wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate to call someone at 2 AM on somebody else's dime.
What should you carry? Preferrably a nice compact mess kit, but a pot that can double as a frying pan. Non-perishables: bulk sugar is great but I do love me some restaurant sweetener packets, light as hell.Cooking oil or shortening(put this shit in a can or jar, reuse the fuck out of it, but it DOES spoil). Salt, bouillon is great. Ramen(if you can, scrimp on the msg packets, they can pull double duty as bouillon). Oats. Anything more perishable can be obtained as you go. Also, popcorn's a simple treat if you're set up good.
Carry first aid shit & duck tape. It sucks taking a rusty nail to the leg and not being able to patch it up for the 4 mile hike back to your spot.

Out of your comfort zone? Stop in the cheapo theater for a nap. Dollar/porno theaters still exist in places, privacy is... usually assured. Rooftops aren't... horrible, but exposed to the elements. Seriously avoid dark scary places & abandoned buildings if you're alone, never know.
If you have to pick & choose... keep your shoes & coat intact. Shit's vital for everyday living while also looking nice as possible. If you've got some change or can sneak a second, pick up a newspaper. Coupons and classifieds are your friend. Also newspaper is great for insulation. Out of date papers also work well, see someone reading a paper?(in this day and age? seriously?) ask if you can have it when he's done. Saves him the trouble of trashing it.
If you happen upon a construction site, snatch you up some of the plastic liner if you can get it. Makeshift tent or umbrella. Pallets are plenty useful for firewood or a hobo-shack wall, especially when combined with plastic lining shit.

That's very neat, I haven't even thought of a lot of those things yet lol. That plastic can also be used to collect/hold water if you're busy rain-showering with shampoo for a bodywash.

Also buckets. If you can snatchemup, cool. Hardware store? Couple bucks per 5/10 gallons. Buckets work for collecting water, for toilets, extra storage. Especially if you're a roof-dweller in a plastic hoboshack. If you gotta gtfo, they're not a huge investment, but seriously buckets are awesome. You'd be partaking in what you're supposedly against, you'd be getting housing and food and arms paid for by the taxpayers, unless you want the grand opportunity to kill 16 innocent people and get off with "oh, that poor fellow probably had PTSD, we shouldn't punish a murderer, he only killed some dirty arabs", I wouldn't recommend the military.

get a bulk bag of legumes (green or black lentils) from some kind of co-op before you set out on this
They keep for ages, you can sprout them in jars/bottles and eat them (they double-to-triple in size) or cook them in water.
