I'm looking to record video inside my bathroom for.... security reasons. The room is inside my apartment. Specifically, I'd like to focus on the shower area. Picture is my bathroom layout.

I have a DSLR camera which records video, but that wouldn't be ideal to make secretive recordings. After all, I wouldn't want any intruders seeing my camera. I could hide it in a nearby laundry pile, but that would be risky.

I would prefer to avoid drilling any holes, or installing any wiring, etc. There is a vent in the ceiling, but the openings are small.

Any suggestions /diy/? If I caught any intruders on camera, I would be willing to report back with images.

unscrew ventilation grill, install camera inside, replace grill. tinker with position until it covers the area you want, and is not obstructed.

If it's really for "security", wouldn't capturing the door be sufficient?
    >> Anonymous 02/27/12(Mon)22:12 No.162836
Yeah, no offense dude, but saying you need to >Record a shower in your bathroom without anyone knowing
for security reasons, it's just sketchy as hell. Be honest with us

Perhaps he suspects some form of foul play in his shower, and seeks to gain evidence of this chicanery before alerting the authorities to whatever undesirable attempts to sabotage his plumbing.

I have no knowledge of this, but the vent is probably your best bet, and even then the angle isn't good. Perhaps rig some sort of contraption that would hold the camera to the bottom of the toilet tank lid, and place the lid at a discreet angle to allow the camera to see out into the shower area.

Oh yeah, shower burglars are a big problem. You are pathetic.

His apartment. He can record whatever he wants.
Get a nannycam and stick it in the vent.

You can't, not legally anyways, even if you owned the bathroom and were guaranteed to be the only one to ever use it. Bathrooms are covered by invasion of privacy laws in every state and on the federal level. If you get caught it's going to cost you between 25k-300k per victim not including any jail time you'll have to do.

    > Oh yeah, I caught this motherfucker stealing my shower tiles, luckily I recorded him doing it while he was in the shower!

    Imagine how that'd turn out.

For the last time Shredder, the turtles aren't going to come up the drain. You're worrying about nothing.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)06:42 No.163179
The way OP phrased the post made it clear that he was trying to communicate the intended use of the camera without coming right out and saying it. Probably for legal reasons, because he could always tell the judge "hey, I didn't actually SAY I was going to use it to spy on pretty ladies in the shower." Not saying it would work, just trying to get inside OPs head.

If you actually think OP expects anyone to buy his story about catching burglars in his bathroom, YOU are the retarded one.

is there some kind of a box out there in the bathroom that you can empty and drill an hole in it? It would really help is your bathroom was a real mess with whole bunch of useless stuff lying near the sink

I'm looking to record video inside my bathroom for perverted reasons. This is the room inside my apartment. Specifically, I'd like to focus on the shower area. Picture is my bathroom layout.

I have a DSLR camera which records video, but that wouldn't be ideal to make secretive recordings. After all, I wouldn't want any intruders seeing my camera. I could hide it in a nearby laundry pile, but that would be risky, and I don't want the girls to know I am recording them.

I would prefer to avoid drilling any holes, or installing any wiring, etc as the appartment is rented and I don't want to lose my bond. There is a vent in the ceiling, but the openings are small, and I am too cheap/shy to go buy a small security camera

Any suggestions /diy/? If I caught any intruders on camera, I would be willing to report back with images, on /b/ where they like this sort of stuff.

Well, if that's the case, we cannot help you because then we would be aiding and abetting a criminal act.

    OP,

On the extreme remote chance that you are wanting this for less than nefarious reasons then please tell us the intended purpose.

You say you rent. Do you think someone (ie landlord) is coming into your apt and dropping a deuce then using your shower in some fashion?

Even if this were the case you still CANNOT legally video in the shower without the consent of the other parties.

Now, if this is your concern there are a couple of ways to handle this. Either place a camera OUTSIDE of the bathroom pointed at the door to catch any would be nefarious people coming and going.
    OR
Post a warning on the door to the bathroom that the room is under surveillance, and their continued use of the faculties will be taken as consent to their being filmed for whatever purpose you want it to be.

You morons he obviously doesn't care about the legality of this, OP I bought a pinhole cam , wireless, runs off AC or a 9 volt, for this.very purpose got an old alarm clock radio that.didn't look out of place in bathroom, opened it up, spliced cams power adapter to clocks power, his.camera inside and pointed it our of hole in speaker grill. Works perfectly whilst I record footage.remotely from my PC in my room. Dslr too.conspicuous.
