Not a mod, but I think that asking tips on how to make a helmet for a costume is different from asking for the hole costume. Although some people say that everything costume related should be on /cgl/, I think that /diy/ is mature enough to accept that even if /cgl/, people are still doing it themselves.

The mod has stated before that costume making is relevant to /diy/. You -can- still take it to /cgl/, but you don't have to - and frankly, I think /cgl/ needs a DIY thread about getting that tree trunk out of its collective ass, so I'd suggest you ask here first.

Maybe someone should add some sort of tags to the list whether the site is comprised of stuff using SI/metric units or imperial units.

I love instructables.com but everything there is in imperial units and I'm not going to find any of the hardware-supplies listed there at my local hardwareshop in Germany.

I guess a wiki would be the best.

to make this thread more complete, consider a common situation of first time visitors: say I know aboslutely nothing about diy, and I want to get into it; where do I start? what website(s) do I visit first? (asuming a similar level of interest in al diy aspects)

what exactly is /diy/? i mean, how can you be a total noob about diy, there are things that you do on your own, like cooking, cleaning etc. You may say that thats routine work, but some people have never cooked anything.

What would be the answer to that question "Hey guys, i want to /diy/ how do i starg?" fuck, this is very generic, what do you want to do? carpentry? metal working? crafting? knitting? electronics? Thats the reason i decide to classifed each site, General, electronics, computers, etc. That way you can search for what you like.

Your idea is good, maybe we need tiers for the sites, noob tier, pro tier. Sometimes you visit a forum and its too advanced for a noob, or too basic and you want to become a pro.

I would love to do that list with the tiers, but there are too many, and most of them i dont know what are they about, we need people who can classiffy that stuff, for example i dont know shit about electronics and robotics, i dont know which pages are good. but i know a lot about Air conditioning and construction i could review some sites.

(sorry for my bad english gentlemen)
