I have to say, even as a protestor, when I saw this and others like it in another forum I was quite pissed. It's these rare moments that I truely understand what "cancer" and "newfaggotry" really is.

With that being said, contrary to what you believe, alot of us aren't THIS fucking stupid. Some of us are still people that ACT stupid but when it comes down to being responsible and effective we can. These people cannot.

Also, there's been some really funny shit (and now I guess you could say "memes") to come from these protests. Much more so than I've seen come out of any of the chans combined in the last 7 months.

That depends. Are you dense enough to think that people from 4chan go to anime conventions dressed in normal clothes?

Or perhaps you're dense enough to think that there are "acceptable" (lol) ways of "representing" (lol) an image board's community in a public place? or that such representation even exists?

How about this: one person (not a community, or representative of a community) thinks a joke is funny, and costumes himself in a public place according to a joke. Why does this reflect on a community? On the contrary, doesn't it only reflect on that one person and his choice?
    >> Anonymous 08/11/08(Mon)17:58 No.984
Y'know, this display kind of sucked until a group of Metal Gear Solid 3 cosplayers walked in and mimed sex with each other. This culminated with Raichov removing a crab from his pants and throwing it on Snake. I smiled.
    >> Anonymous 08/11/08(Mon)18:06 No.1001
I would posit that some people from 4chan are normal enough to wear normal clothes when they go out in public, even to an anime convention. Some people who go costumed to anime conventions are probably from 4chan, too.

And that neither has any business saying anything about whether or not the others "belong" on 4chan or what's "acceptable 4chan behavior". Anonymous posting is about divorcing ideas from ego, take from that what you will. What's acceptable is whatever stands up to scrutiny, yes?
    >> Anonymous 08/11/08(Mon)18:10 No.1007
    >>952
The cancer you're thinking of is not the kind being discussed in this thread.

As a protestor, you're worried about the "cancer" that is "killing" or "hurting" your protest movement. Because you are, as they say, a "moralfag." You care about stopping all those horrible crimes, and these Internet shenanigans just make you look bad!

Raging anons in this thread, however, are concerned about the "cancer" that lowers the quality of participation on this site, protesting be damned.
    >> Anonymous 08/11/08(Mon)18:15 No.1017
    >>952
I'm a little shocked at this reply. I'm a protestor, and yet, this kind of stuff doesn't bother me??

Why is it a problem? People have been protesting the war in Iraq for years, and nobody pays attention to them. It's only because "Anonymous" makes a ridiculous spectacle of itself that it got any attention at all. Stupid inside jokes are not only good for morale / staying entertained while doing thankless work, but they get people to stop and try and figure out why you're wearing a mask.

If I'm going to strive for social justice, I may as well have fun doing it. There are lots of things I could spend my time protesting against or lobbying for, but chanology is the only one that is actually fun for its participants in any way.

I guess I'm sorry that the discerning users of /con/ did not approve of the guy in the OP pic showing up at their con, but then again, it wasn't me!

The best way to represent cancer would be something growing out of control, such like that guy from Akira.

    wait.

    cancer is uncontrolled growth

    uncontrolled growth is killing /b/

That sounds about right. Now how do we control that growth? Chemo? No, that also kills good cells. I think some directed radiation would work better.

Wrong. Alot of the people who are causing this site to suck ass are also protestors (I sadly have to admit). However, alot of people who've been around here for a long time are now more into the protests than this place because they are a lot more fun and lulzy (and tend to be 20-23). I don't really mind underage b& if they're creative and know how to balance fun and effectiveness. The fact is, however, most don't.

And to the other guy up there, longcat is done. Raptor Jesus, alright, that shit's still awesome. But there are plenty of other memes and cool shit you could've done. To each his own I guess, but just know that kind of cutesy shit makes you look a bit immature.

I think the issue is that protesting under the guise of anonymous attracts a lot of people to 4chan, who don't really contribute to the community.

In addition, protesting by using a communities in-jokes as a blunt club involves that entire community. Many of us are not interested in protesting, and don't understand why you must present our communities culture to the world in order to prove a point in a society where freedom of speech and expression are constitutionally protected.

If you must protest, do it on your own terms. Not out of principle of exclusion, but out of respect for those who do not wish to be involved in whatever it is you're doing.

Alright, for longcat, rick astley, etc you have a valid point. Even for EFG. You win.

But unfortunately for the idea of Guy Fawkes masks, unfortunately for you they have been around for a little bit before 4chan, and the idea of using them for protest/fighting against something is also completely unrelated to 4chan.

But maybe you're right, maybe it would be more polite for the protesters not to refer to themselves as "anonymous". Then again, anonymous has never been anything even CLOSE to polite and it's kind of too late at this point.
    >> Anonymous 08/12/08(Tue)14:44 No.2154
    >>2106
Problem is that most of us have to protest them anonymmously. How strange that you can protest against wars and for the overthrow of governments without any fears of reprecussions, but if you say something negative about a fruity little club you have to protect your identity.

And there was a short distance between being anonymous and being Anonymous.

If I had known what was happening, perhaps I could have suggested that anons who wanted to protest used a different name for themselves. Perhaps pretending to be the Russian mafia, psychiatrists, or psychiatric patients. I guess Alex Wuori and Fox 11 ruined that opportunity and turned Anonymous into a name - when the idea of being anonymous was to have no name.

Meme use I couldn't care less about as long as they aren't being used for monetary profit (subeta etc.).

Rarely, but it happens in discussions such as this one. I find it pretty amusing how "newfag" has become shorthand for "people I don't like" without any true regard for how long people have been here.

And lurking more is what counts. Not how long you've been here.

I just wish there would be less bickering about what anonymous should be like and more lurking. And more original content. Or just plain content.
If there's stuff people don't like, a little bit of rage is OK but then there should be a Touhou flood or something like that. Perhaps try to drown out the shit with content you like rather than giving it more attention by raging about it.

/b/ started hating chanology when 4chan became a tool of chanology rather than chanology being a tool of 4chan.

what happened was that the mangosteen-addled neckbeards over at SA saw chanology start to take off, at which point they started jockeying for top position in the "movement". after this happened, they openly advocated kicking the 4chan members out, due to the memes being potentially embarrassing for their newly adopted -- oops, i mean "created" -- movement.

gee, a board full of anti-establishment posters turns against a grassroots movement that has mutated into an oppressive establishment of its own. i, for one, did not see that coming..

Yes, "at first", when it was still an online prank. But then they started to misuse 4chan's community for their own personal gain. They wanted media attention and didn't care about what would happen to 4chan (especially /b/).

Yes, I can more or less agree to that. In fact the relationship is more like if /b/ held a convention panel or something like that - mostly because even if it wouldn't draw unanimous support it wouldn't put /b/ at risk from legal problems - which most online raids would.
Of course it would be in 4chan's interest not to be seen as the command central of the internet for things which are fine and legal either, because that would invite people who would try to influence opinion on /b/ rather than to entertain it.

I remember the first code of conduct video saying to keep memes to a minimum and to cover your face with something else than masks. But hey presto, the raids were full of masks and the memes were as prevalent as serious stuff. Some wiseases even managed to make signs which were both memes and conveyed a message.

As for the "anti-chan" sentiments, I think the people who expressed that were mostly ignored. In fact much of the same things those people cry about "oh god too many memes" etc. are the same things that the vocal opposition on /b/ cry about.

People that advocate using only moralfaggotry are shot down HARD.

Attendance of IRL raids was at peak in March not because of any chan participation, but because of the "hey my friend wants to come too" novelty effect.

I think the people to came in because they wanted to raise a personal army after seeing the Fox 11 report have had a worse effect over all than anything else involving 4chan that's happened. Of course the coverage after that, particularly if it mentions 4chan, extends that damage. Hopefully, the people brought in by protests go to the dedicated sites rather than here.

    >>2270
I tried to warn them on enturb and they called me a scientology plant and killed the thread.

I agree that bashing the chans was far too prominent on some forums such as on SA. Their current thread even has a thread-rule about not attacking channers. It's like SA as a whole is like a mother who gave birth to 4chan but wishes she had taken an abortion. Thankfully not all users are like that.

As for Enturbulation, there are other forums out there. Enturbulation doesn't own Chanology. Neither does it own Anonyous. For those who feel rejected, there's a group called "Xenu's Insurgets" who are more embracing of the chans.

Of course the primary issue is that thing has led to some rather good IRL events - as well as some failure - but just raiding the same target every month isn't so novel. It lacks the novelty, excitement and danger of February and March.

    >Attendance of IRL raids was at peak in March not because of any chan participation, but because of the "hey my friend wants to come too" novelty effect.

This is true for me at least. I saw the February reports from my local area and saw that it was OK - they were from the internet, including a friend I recognized, and I wanted to be part of this thing before it ended. Don't get me wrong I do know about the abuses and stuff, but I actually came to raid because it was funny.

I'm not gonna discuss this anymore because I think it's falling on deaf ears and isn't really the appropriate place anyways. As far as Enturb bagging on anonymous goes, you have to remember that enturbulation is best off being the pr-friendly public face of anonymous protestors. You can easily deny being related to 4chan or certain 4chan events on enturb and still be a channer. This however is not achieved when people on Enturb still use words like "-fag" and racist terms. Some of those people are fucking idiots I swear.

Dude in dress from pic here.
I went for the anime convention to be honest.

I happened upon this, was amused by it and was more amused by the fact that I knew full well someone would baww about it.
Frankly yer right to baww about it but keep in mind bawwing about it makes you just as bad as this act.

I dared traverse all 20 miles to dc met WBM and tory magoo.
WBM was full of himself thinking he should be an internets celebrity. Magoo was just freaking weird.
DC is full of moralefags and they decided to initiate "Operation Weeaboo 2"

I was at operation weeaboo 1 more for trolling of gaians (who were epically butthurt) and of course because I am a failtrapping weeaboo.

In all honesty, It was annoying to have people passing out youfoundthecards and saying protest scientology.

    useless post is useless.
ITT: drama and bawwing. 2 traps were with the longcat. one admitted he wished he actually spent time trying to look like a trap but had his teeth ripped out and stumbled upon it.
He then said that some DC anons wanted to spread chanology cards everywhere.
All he wanted to do was steal longcats head after pretending to help.

He said he used to do the protests but DC is full of drama and fail and left after may.
Just goes to show how bad DC is.

Then again look at where they live...home of every activist to take a shit.

Then I looked at her ass and I saw bold as day:
    "THE GAME"

And then I cried at how overused the memes were

This is true. I was there. The absolute first fucking thread about "trolling" COS was filled with "EPIC" and "FUCK YEAH!" and "Excellent" and then the day of the first protest the faggots who wouldn't dare leave their house were on /b/ saying how much protests sucked. They were just losers who couldn't leave their home.

But now they are all faggots, the people who complain about, and the protesters themselves.

    I'm awesome no matter what.
    >> Staff-Fag 08/13/08(Wed)12:25 No.3114
    >>3073
So you're a fag if you complain? I guess if you just hide behind your pc all the time you would be so altrustic.
    >> Anonymous 08/13/08(Wed)13:58 No.3157
Why is this even an issue anymore?

Nigras is gonna do what nigras wanna do. If people wanna fag it up and break rules 1&2, aint shit we can do about it unless we find them doing it inside the tubes. If fags wanna go out and raep our glorious memes, not a damn thing can be done.

I go to the raids for one purpose: LULZ. Scilons are fucking hilarious and easily butthurt, especially if you call them fags. They are a treasure chest of lulz and easy trolls.

I think the /b/tards lost interest and got shitty with the tards on enturbulation over moralfaggotry taking over lots of cities. A fuck ton of the /b/tards left and decided that they'd rather troll from behind their computer screens. Whatever gets u max lulz is fine with me.

Come out to raids, don't come out to raids, go troll enturbulation, actually post on enturbulation, be a moralfag, be there 4 lulz, fail dance, hand out info, stay at home and troll /b/, go to faggy cons dressed as fags...that's all good. JUST DO NOT TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK I CAN AND CANNOT DO.

    TL;DR: STFU

Okay, I know these guys kinda irl.

    They're all enormous faggots.
They just like to act like retards in public and then pretend it's serious business. "Omg scientology is sooo bad. We need to flyer at Otakon =["
They can't stop creating drama with each other for more than 3 seconds and are trying really fucking hard to get rid of the few people who actually do work for them.
    They're all total failures.

What's even better is that most of them work for the military or nsa/cia type shit.
    Seriously, get on partyvan #dcfags.
    They suck cocks hardcore.

The one with the unfortunate face traps out to sleep.
    lol
    >> Anonymous 08/14/08(Thu)09:01 No.3746
    Hahaha oh wow

4chan /b/ is dead, totally cancer-ridden. There's no going back. You can't get rid of the media attention and huge traffic rates by shouting "RULES 1 AND 2 FAGGOT". At this point the funniest thing to do is troll the cancer and the "oldfags" (who are also cancer) that take themselves seriously and BAAAWWWWW about all this shit.

If you weren't cancer, you would have found a new place with less traffic and more content.

And Yes I do trap out to sleep.
Anywho, Yeah Dcfags is filled with epic amounts of drama and crap. I try to avoid the channel when such shit goes down but occasionally it is funny as hell to watch especially since the ones who try to start the drama later try to say they were trolling the room. Even though its kinda obvious they fail at trolling since they get caught up in their own drama and "Trolling"

    RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!!!!

Fuck, when I go to Otakon in a few years, if I see ONE person like that, he'll be lucky to make it out alive. I'd like the assistance of any nearby channer, if possible, when the time comes.

If 4chan survives for another 3-6 years.

I won't be 21 for 6 years, and I guess that's when I can legally drink? In UK it's 18, but I hasta go to Otakon, Otakon can't come to me.

3 years and I'll be 18, which is old enough to fuck some bitch cosplaying as Haruhi. In the bunny suit, of course.
