After lurking for a year or two, I have to ask,
Why does /co/ dislike Scott Pilgrim?
>>
>>52168775 (OP)
Cause they're idiots
>>
>>52168801
but every other cartoon i watch is just as idiotic
Regular show and Adventure time are wack shit
>>
>>52168775 (OP)
I actually like SP. I really like the art style, humor, and plot

scott pilgrim is secretly like 6 books of a guy learning he's an asshole, but the first five books obscure with "he's white and stupid so it's tolerated"

Pretentious hipster bullshit
>>
>>52169072
Not OP, but tbh i think that comicfags are butthurt that theres one comic out there that genuinely doesnt take itself seriously. I dont go either way though, i really like everything
>>
Scott Pilgrim blew the fuck up in 2010. The last volume, the movie-- it was a big deal. /co/ was terrified there would be a massive influx of normalfags, so Scott Pilgrim was permanently blacklisted as "hipster garbage".

What's funny is that before that, it was just a comic. Hell, I only became aware of Scott Pilgrim after the first volume was storytimed (completely drama-free) way back when.
>>
>>52169072
The art is far from horrible I'd say, it's not great, I don't know what I'd call it, but it wasn't horrible.

>>52169161
There are plenty of comics that don't take themselves seriously.

Don't be dumb.
>>
It feels like "Juno, the comic".
Just way too hipster for me.
>>
>>52169161
>one comic out there that genuinely doesn't take itself seriously.
Are you new? That's essentially the entire premise for every Deadpool comic. Even /co/'s webcomic tastes lean towards goofy shit.
>>
>>52169245
No one knows what hipster means.
>>
>>52169259
>every Deadpool comic

No it's not.
>>
>>52169072
I completely disagree on all points. Scott Pilgrim's art was really dynamic and improved to an insane degree over the course of the series.
>>
>>52169097
>>52169097

Adventure Time seems more like bullshit than anything else. Its a cartoon made for stoners and hipsters alike.

I watched 10 episodes of that crap and quit right when I got to that one episode of those creepy lemon people. I regret wasting my time watching that crap.
>>
>>52169072
Game references were pretty scarce, actually. I felt like I was missing most of the jokes because I'm not into ndie rock, because that was referenced heavily. Also, Skyllar Popcollar mocka Scott Pilgrim better than this.
>>
>>52169161
>one comic out there that genuinely doesnt take itself seriously
These have existed for a long time though. Pilgrim isn't the first to do that.

Unrelated, but how is O'Malley's newest comic coming along?
>>
>in before some asshole starts talking about how the video game and the movie are better
>in before some spineless coward qualifies their praise for Scott Pilgrim with, "It's not the best thing I've ever read, but.."
>>
>>52169334
Delayed until next year I think.
>>
>>52169261
Then what does it mean to you?
>>
>>52169334
>Unrelated, but how is O'Malley's newest comic coming along?

I forget why, but it was delayed until next year. It's still coming, though.
>>
>>52169365
>in before some asshole starts talking about how the video game and the movie are better

>STOP LIKING BETTER THING YOU ASSHOLES!

Also, it wasn't the best thing i've ever read, but it was entertaining as fuck.
>>
>>52169412
Didn't he broke something recently?
>>
>>52169161
>i think that comicfags are butthurt that theres one comic out there that genuinely doesnt take itself seriously

Oh my god

How are you this retarded

I can't even perceive how stupid you are
>>
>>52169314
Now that you mention it, Adventure Time and Scott Pilgrim are kind of similar. They both wear their video game influences on their sleeve and neither of them take themselves very seriously (until they do). They both get a lot of criticism for their simplistic artstyle and they both get a lot of criticism for portraying relationships in a more realistic way than /co/ seems to prefer.

Book Two: 7/10
Book Three:8/10
Book Four:9/10
Book Five:8/10
Book Six:5/10
Liked the series overall but the last book left a bad taste in my mouth.
>>
The quirky and romanticized aspects of it just screamed "dumb" to me and overshadowed everything else about it. And I hate to think about the tastes of people who enjoy it for those aspects.

And that's just the few I could think of off the top of my head that I actually read. There's so much more out there, its like you are literally new to comics but think you know a lot about them.

To me it means "I don't know what I'm talking about or "I don't understand this thing" because everyone uses this word incorrectly.

Scott Pilgrim is far, far from blending with hipster outisde of it being an indie comic culture.
>>
>>52169321
This, there wasn't much. I had to look up what an Honest Bob's was because I never been to Toronto. (I had previously heard the same name of the Indie Group Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives). I assumed it was another music reference.

Well the less people you interact with the less chances you have to be an asshole. On the internet you can get by with lurking and calling someone a faggot, nigger or some other shit you couldn't use irl. Really lets the asshole out
>>
>>52169987
No, but you can have a new season of Johnny Test.
>>
Scott Pilgrim has like three video game references in the whole series.
>>
>>52169624
Look, I don't think people would keep calling Scott Pilgrim "hipster" if they didn't have some idea that it was. If they're just attaching meaningless epithets to it, then why don't they call it "skinhead bullshit" or "rocker bullshit"?
>>
>>52170018
>tfw a faithful SC book adaptation will never be made while JT has been renewed for 15 more seasons

>tfw Lost at Sea will never get any adaptation in any medium ever

By becoming self aware.
"Ha, this Scott guy is like me, I like him! Oh wait, he's kind of a dick. Ooooooooh noooooooo."
>>
>>52170016
It works like magic (not them), the little i do out now, it's fucking calm.

But don't overuse it...
>>
>>52168938

That's... actually not a bad summary.
>>
>>52170101
It's terrible, i wish i could live my life like an asshole without noticing, rather than watching my every step.
>>
at first I did enjoy the series, then it sort of hit that it's just a guy who's been an asshole all this time that he never got his comeuppance in life.

instead of learning about it, it's conveniently swept under the rug in favor of "yeah, let's just forget I did all this, the end". I would of liked more reproductions, more of a long term scar that permanently resides in him as a lesson not to be the way he was.
>>
>>52170098
I think O'Malley said something about a special edition coming out soon, with it being the tenth anniversary of Lost At Sea or something like that.
>>
>>52170092
What /co/ associates with hipster is not what it necessarily is.

>If they're just attaching meaningless epithets to it, then why don't they call it "skinhead bullshit" or "rocker bullshit"?

Because 90% of the people that use the word hipster on this website think they know what it means, but they really don't.
>>
The people who think that Scott Pilgrim is pro-hipster are the same people who think that Lolita is pro-pedophilia & Fight Club is pro-anarchy. These kinds of people prefer to take everything at face value and can't into subtext. They would rather have the message of the story spoon-fed to them than actually read into things, because they are lazy. I'm not saying that Scott Pilgrim is a masterpiece, and I'm not saying you can't hate it, but you need to hate it for the right reasons.
>>
>>52170243
Yep there's a new print coming.
>>
Poor craftsmanship in design and approach. The movie showed how actual professionals within their field could express the frame, setting and world better than BLO ever could. If the scope of comics genre was larger, there wouldn't be so much championing of Scott Pilgrim since it's a shoddy work in a unique field, but unfortunately it was deemed necessary because it was a big fish in a small pond
>>
>>52170243
There's a tenth anniversary edition cingular out for Lost At Sea. That's it.
>>
>>52170243
A color edition would be cool. I wish that they didn't re release the SC volumes with the different covers. I wan't it but I know it'd be a stupid buy
>>
>>52170259
>>52170252
>"You guys don't know what hipster means, I do!"
It's hipster shit just like the movie it spawned & Juno.
