But the industry permits it, so why wouldn't DA?
>>8859370 >They claim you can learn from tracing.
You
can! I traced when I was a certain age-- I't usually trace 'glory'
shorts. About 30% of penciling is muscle control, and training your
hand to follow the RIGHT kind of curve is important. Plus tracing
detail forces your mind to actually think about that detail-- about WHY
the line weights varied here, about the spatial relationships
involved... when you spend TIME recreating an image on that level, you
can't HELP but think "about" the image, and all the little things that
make it work.
Of course this assumes: 1) You're drawing yourself, not JUST tracing. 2) You're tracing someone worth learning from. How much can you really learn from Rob Liefeld?
I traced Andrew Wildman when I was but a brat. Love or hate his art... his fundamentals are rock-solid.
Proportion
is also important. I think I went through The amount of time you spend
drawing should FAR exceed the amount of time you spend tracing. I knew
(and still know) I could produce 'better' images by tracignt hem... but
I didnt' want to copy images and alter their details, I wanted to learn
to create them whole-cloth. And that means just tracing shit wasn't
good enough. |
