ITT: Ways in which Toonami changed/improved our lives.

I probably would never have heard about Daft Punk if not for Midnight Run.
    >> harblholic !tK4ashPPPM 09/20/08(Sat)23:56 No.5909269
Tom 1 taught me the meaning of courage.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)23:58 No.5909292
    Techno.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)23:58 No.5909294
Same as OP, but with Gorillaz.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)23:58 No.5909312
The Midnight Run was the shit. Loved it.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)23:59 No.5909320
pretty much 95% of all my imagination, creativity, ability to dream, and find pleasure from fantasy and science fiction all came from toonami

I wonder if the people who worked on toonami are browsing /co/ right now?

    How do they feel?
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:00 No.5909356
Samurai Jack gave me good taste in cartoons.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:00 No.5909357
Those videos introduced me to Daft Punk AND Leiji Matsumoto.

    This. Fucking this.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:00 No.5909362
Toonami fucking introduced me to the idea of an "action-cartoon".
i.e., when animators from America and Japan get off their ass and use animation for something other than Ren & Stimpy bullshitting around for 22 minutes.

It was this basic concept that made me want to pursue a career in artistic animation.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:00 No.5909363
Love of science fiction, anime, techno.

Toonami was a big part of shaping me.
    >> Anonymoose !x4vv0ZYuAo 09/21/08(Sun)00:00 No.5909369
Oh man, same. I didn't know Daft Punk existed until they had that AMV night.

    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:01 No.5909384
    How to be strong
How to fight, even against the overwhelming odds
How to believe in the power of good
If you do something with your loved ones in mind, anything is possible
How getting the girl and saving the day is a dream anyone can achieve

Fuck, I'm crying so hard because of this list. If TOM never existed.....

    Daft Punk is terrible though.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:03 No.5909432
Gorillaz sucked, but fuck yeah Daft Punk.

I picked them up after remembering how much I loved One More Time. I used to think they actually looked like that (sans being blue aliens) as a band, that it was a full band.

At least this thread might have real discussion, not just ;_; BAWWW WE MISS U REST IN PEACE GOODNITE SWEETE PRINZE
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:04 No.5909455
Daft Punk and Gorillaz are my two favorite bands. My love of action cartoons, harem genre, giant robots. And courage. Whenever I feel down I go watch those old tom videos

also extremely relevant to toonami tonight
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:11 No.5909595
    Daft Punk

    Big O

    Samurai Jack

Toonami was the stuff of legends when I was a kid! I ate, slept and dreamed fantasy and science fiction because of this shit! Damn...

People say that violence and mature themes desensitize kids. Fuck that! Watching Toonami is the reason I started day dreaming about robots and swordfights in the first place, and it's the reason I'll keep dreaming until I die.

    Fuck you Cartoon Network...
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:24 No.5909950
    bump
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:28 No.5910037
I completely forgot that I first really learned about Daft Punk and Gorrillaz from Toonami.
Fuck, man; they're still two of my favorite bands.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:29 No.5910060
gorillaz would be good if they lost the goth-punk bullshit.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:31 No.5910078
    >>5909595Fuck you Cartoon Network...

So who's ready for the Tim & Eric Marathon!?

    What, too soon?
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:33 No.5910133
Influenced me into being the person I am today. If I had never seen DBZ and all of the other awesome action anime and shows they aired, I would not be at an art school becoming an animator right now.

Not to mention all of those positive life lessons that the TOMs taught us. What power is, courage, friendship, etc. I don't even think messages like that are even IN cartoons anymore.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:36 No.5910182
    >>5910133
Never mind them being IN cartoons. Kids always see that message and ignore it. TOM was able to get it across in 30 seconds. It was these messages that stuck with me.

Well, the people at Adult Swim browse /a/. Poster even started letting them know what was coming and apologized for it.

As for me, Toonami got me into anime, turned me on to Daft Punk and Gorillaz, and gave me something to talk about with my friends when we weren't playing on the playground.
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:40 No.5910235
It told me I had a right to dream, and that I'd decide my own destiny by standing up against any self-doubt.
It introduced me to anime. I would watch DBZ every afternoon. It was perfect to my little fifth grade mind.
Like OP, it introduced me to Daft Punk. So, in a way, I should thank TOM for sowing the seed of electronic love that has grown so tall. Oh, and The White Stripes.
Toonami also scared the shit out of me. That Big O episode with the little girl... The red balloon... Watching at midnight... That memory still makes me feel... bothered, for some reason.
    >> Otsuko !zn6obdUsOA 09/21/08(Sun)00:40 No.5910236

    Genres, do you know them?
    >> Anonymous 09/21/08(Sun)00:42 No.5910264
DBZ, Kenshin, and G Gundam were fucking action fuel.

THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED
