Recently there was a fantasy show on TV where the plot of a story arc was about the prince wanting to choose his own mate, instead of taking a local woman he didn't know as his bride.

The plot really didn't grab me, was very pretty though.

I'm not interested in this flick at all. But then again I don't really care much for 3D animated movies in general. I didn't even see UP until 2 months ago when my friend forced me to, still haven't seen Toy Story 2 or 3, and didn't see WALL-E until about 6 months ago.

Gentlemen, I know it's not the most riveting tale if it's one that encompasses a girl and will obviously feature men of trivial value and worth.
But here's two things to consider;
1. It's being tailor-made for young tom-girls so this sort of treatment is to be expected. This isn't a movie for us, and that's ok. Pixar doesn't owe us anything.
2. By getting this uppity about male characters, ESPECIALLY about them enforcing negative male stereotypes, do you not see how you begin to resemble the women who protest female comic-book/video-game characters as sexist?

Are we not better than those people? Can we not just ignore this movie? In an equal world, both genders get shitty representations in certain works.

I think even tumblr is less blindly defensive/critical of this film than /co/.

Although I agree that the stereotyping and sexualising of women in comics is getting silly (note that Im not an active comic reader), I would argue that comics are marketed purely toward a male audience, while a more mainstream film is aimed at both.
I don't think it's a huge issue, a lot of people tend to be stereotypes, and a lot of characters seem to be stereotypes. It gets stupid when they are lazy or badly made stereotypes.
Stereotypes were based on real people, but that doesnt mean people are purely those stereotypes.
