On my rewatch from a couple of weeks ago, I noticed this too. I also picked up that Bruce's father is the only one that people refer to. He gets the most attention in flashbacks, as well.

    Is Christopher Nolan sexist?

Having seen all of his movies, it seems that he's not so much sexist as incapable of directing women well.

That's why I'm worried about Catwoman. Nolan's going to have trouble with her.

It's like that in the comics, too.
How much can you honestly remember about Martha Wayne?
While Thomas Wayne was the reason Kal-El was sent to Earth pre-reboot.
    Seriously.

Indeed. Under the right director, I'm sure Anne Hathaway could give a decent performance as Catwoman, but she's not NEARLY as good an actress as Cotillard and I'm not sure she could give as great a performance as Cotillard does with Nolan.

It's minor, but Alfred says Mother's Day is NOT the day you approach Bruce on in "The Long Halloween". They even show why - he goes into full Bats-mode when cops try to question him in Crime Alley, and they find him having a small tantrum at her grave.

    Well, yeah. She's his mom.
But Martha Wayne as a person? No. She's notable for being a Kane and her pearl necklace. She's an ordinary attractive woman far overshadowed by her husband, who did all sorts of shit.

When Bruce is freaking out at the opera, she says
    "What's wrong Bruce?"
And then in the Alley she says

Why the hell did they take the back exit anyways? I think every person that lives in or near a large city knows not to go down the back alleys.

They didn't want to make a scene by walking out of the front door. It would probably send a bad message to the players and the owners of the theater.

His dad was portrayed as a pretty trusting guy, maybe even naive. Also, upscale opera houses have very strict exit/entrance rules so you don't disturb people. The front entrance was likely closed and the usher led them to a side-exit.

Batman should be angsty over that usher more than Chill. I mean, what's Joe gonna do, NOT kill his parents? It's in his nature.
