52 KB Batman Chased Down By Chinese Authorities, Gets Away Anonymous 12/15/11(Thu)22:26 No.32375468 sticky
In China on Thursday, Batman himself, Christian Bale, went through a real-life version of a scene from "The Dark Knight" where Batman miraculously escapes from authorities in Hong Kong. CNN reports that "The Dark Knight Rises" star was on his way to Dongshigu Village in eastern China with a crew from CNN to meet with Chen Guangcheng, a blind civil rights activist in the People's Republic of China who has been there in soft detention since his release from prison in September 2010. When Bale and the CNN crew arrived, he was accosted by four plainclothes officers who chased him out of the village and onto the road.

"What I really wanted to do was to meet the man, shake his hand and say what an inspiration he is," Bale told CNN. When Bale approached Chen Guangchen's village, the four men blocking the path began shoving the actor (caught on tape by CNN) after he requested to see the civil rights leader. The men then attempted to drag Bale away from the camera crew. The physical scuffle eventually turned to a high-speed car chase, where Bale and the crew were chased down country roads for nearly 40 minutes that ended with a broken car and damaged camera.

Bale was in China for the premiere of "The Flowers of War," reportedly the most expensive Chinese film in history. Bale plays a mortician in the drama, set in the 1930s, who tries to save a group of schoolgirls from Japanese soldiers. During his time filming the movie, he heard of Chen's story through news reports and decided to visit the civil rights leader on his return for the premiere. The actor hoped to raise awareness of the Chinese civil rights movement and Chen himself. "Flowers of War" hits in China on December 16. Bale's final movie as Batman, "Dark Knight Rises," is slated for June 20, 2012.

Stay tuned to CBR News for more information on Christian Bale's escape as it develops.

They really, really, really, really want this movie made, since it's a movie about all the horrible shit that happened to them during ww2, something western audiences never get to see.
They accosted Bale and his team because he visited a man the Chinese deem... well, a criminal. (Despite us thinking of him as a hero)

He just walked right up to me and hugged me. He hugged me, and I was so moved by it that I hugged him back. Then he looked up at me and said, "You're my hero." And in that moment, I knew that not only as an actor that I had done my job, but that I had made the right decision to play Batman. And I've never looked back on my the decision to play Batman since.

The International Military Tribunal for the Far East estimated that 20,000 women were raped, including infants and the elderly.[38] A large portion of these rapes were systematized in a process where soldiers would search door-to-door for young girls, with many women taken captive and gang raped.[39] The women were often killed immediately after the rape, often through explicit mutilation[40] or by stabbing a bayonet, long stick of bamboo,[41] or other objects into the vagina. Young children were not exempt from these atrocities, and were cut open to allow Japanese soldiers to rape them.

There are also accounts of Japanese troops forcing families to commit acts of incest.[46] Sons were forced to rape their mothers, fathers were forced to rape daughters. One pregnant woman who was gang-raped by Japanese soldiers gave birth only a few hours later; although the baby appeared to be physically unharmed (Robert B. Edgerton, Warriors of the Rising Sun). Monks who had declared a life of celibacy were also forced to rape women.

Yeah, things were pretty fucked up, but seriously China has a lot to answer for, and they get mad over the most retarded shit. There was one movie I saw called Nanking-Nanking, this movie was as brutals as Schindler's list, people are rapped on screen and a three year old is tossed from a four story window. All of this is done by Japanese soldiers for no good reason but shits and giggles. And you know what, China still had the movie nearly banned, why, because there is one Japanese soldier, mind you this was a real person, who took pity on the Chinese people in Nanking and would occasionally do humane things for them, staying the execution of a child, giving a mercy kill to a woman who was going to be raped.

China still thought that, despite the various atrocities showcased by the film, it was still too kind to the Japanese for one character, who was an actual person and deserved to let his story be heard.

Many killed themselves, others starved to death with many other peasants.

The disastrous policies of the Great Leap forward kept Mao out of power for a decade and put Deng Xiao Ping and Lin Biao into power.

The Cultural Revoultion was encouraged by Mao and his wife along with their powerbase but it was a student movement dominated by people in their 20's. It's basically China's Occupy or Tea Party movement but vastly more violent.

Eh, they did quite some damage here. At first they came and told us we're their 'old brothers', but soon enough they shown their true face. Forced work camps, forced marriage, etc.
So the resistance/independence movement, which had been resisting against the Dutch colonial rule before, turned their attention toward the Japanese.
Maybe, compared to the other nations, Indonesia wasn't as fucked. Maybe because Imperial Japan is too busy fucking the other nations.
In any case, we managed to kick their ass out. And then the Dutch-backed allied forces which tried to re-establish the colony.

For the most part, Japan kind of pretends the atrocities in WW2 didn't happen. It has a lot to do with the way the Allies treated Japan after the war, where they intentionally absolved the Emperor of any wrongdoing and just blamed his generals for everything. They did this because they knew that the best way of keeping the Japanese people nice and civil was to keep the Emperor in place. It had the unfortunate side effect of absolving most of the populace, so they ended up with a sense of "naw, we didn't do anything wrong."

What happened to China, except on a much smaller scale.

The biggest flak Japan gets from most Filipinos is for the Death March, but that was more of a hideous logistical error on the part of Japanese forces regarding how many prisoners they would have to transport from the island fortress of Bataan, rather than an outright atrocity.

Also they didn't take the communist guerrillas very well, and reportedly avenged themselves heavily on communities suspected of harboring the rebels... pretty much like American and Philippine forces from the 60's onwards. Albeit, with more rape than the latter two.

Lin Biao was a great military general that Believed in Mao. He and Deng made economic reforms during the 60's, which the college students fucked up when they started the Cultural Revolution.

The Cultural revolution was a student movement inspired and promoted by Mao. Alot of the killings were Red Guards fighting Red Guards because they had no solid organization from the Party or Mao other than Slogans like "Be Revolutionary". Stop being an idiot, protests and student movements are not always a positive thing.

    >Typical liberal propaganda.

    >The idea that “Mao was responsible for genocide” has been used as a springboard to rubbish everything that the Chinese people achieved during Mao’s rule. However, even someone like the demographer Judith Banister, one of the most prominent advocates of the “massive death toll” hypothesis has to admit the successes of the Mao era. She writes how in 1973-5 life expectancy in China was higher than in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and many countries in Latin America 1. In 1981 she co-wrote an article where she described the People’s Republic of China as a ‘super-achiever’ in terms of mortality reduction, with life expectancy increasing by approximately 1.5 years per calendar year since the start of communist rule in 1949 2. He might have given a shit when he was younger. After all, most men were young and idealistic once.

But by that point in time, he was a selfish and senile power grabber. When the Prime Minister Zhou, who was a much more moderate leader by far, got cancer, Mao basically denied him any treatment, and watched a man who used to be his friend and comrade die.

Also don't get me started on the shitty ways he treated his former wives. One was supposedly driven insane by him.

Though to be fair.. America had its own attempts at genocide during its formation.

Not that another wrong justifies what Mao did. Why can't we point out both as major major wrongs in history. America doesn't suppress what we did anywhere near what China does to rewrite history.

I say that gives America the points for morality and does not make China look good.

Yes.. but there is a problem when the country denies and suppresses any talk of that shit and may continue to do such things. Japan hasn't done anything like they did in WWII since they lost and all that, but they certainly deny it and have deniers in their government who long for those good old days.

China not only denies its past atrocities, but their veil of secrecy and some stuff that had leaked out brings up questions of continued human rights violations.

What would Batman do in China? Well.. kinda something like this.

Deng? I haven't seen a picture of him in years.

I used to really admire him. He was even a personal hero for me. I tried to learn Chinese and read up everything about Chinese culture because of him. But then Tiananmen Square happened. B-P

Twenty two years later, I now have business ties to Japan instead. I was never expecting that.

I'm pretty damn sure it was a lot higher under Deng. Mao completely devestated the country twice. Once During the Great Leap Forward and once during the Cultural Revolution.
Deng industrialized China far faster, and reformed the agriculture system so there weren't so damn many famines. Mao may have unified China after the Chinese Civil War, but Deng industrialized and modernized it

We've got Tea Partiers, the Occupy movement, the Arab Spring, the Recall Walker movement, even protestors in Russia. Someone HAS to revive the Tiananmen Square movement. It's been WAY overdue for the Chinese people to kick the Communists out!

Actually most Chinese are pretty relaxed about the whole situation. They've struck a devil's bargain with the CCP, the government will keep the standard of living going up and continually expand the economic miracle, while at the same time not be too repressive and in exchange the people won't revolt. It sounds queasy to Westerners (including myself), but consider that China was basically in a constant state of Unrest and War from the early 1800s until the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1950, and then endured both the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. You can see why as a chinese person you might just be happy that no one is shooting at you and there is food to eat. The fact that you get to have a rising standard of living is also totally cool. You might not be free, but at least you and your family are well fed and safe.

It was fear of descending again into chaos that made Deng crush the Tianamen Square protestors. It wasn't right, but it is why he did it.

Since you aren't trolling, I'll go ahead and ask you why you consider the US a dictatorship.
For one thing we have regular free and fair elections (the basic thing we need for a democracy). We also have a leader who is severely restricted in what he can do by an opposition party in Congress, and thus can not wield unlimited, or even close to, unlimited powers.
There are all kinds of problems with the US, but we aren't a dictatorship by any reasonable definition of the word.

Not to get political, but China technically isn't communist. Communism is an economic system. The economic structure of China is currently capitalist, but the political structure is essentially fascist. Fascism is the cooperation of Big Business and Government, where the rights of the people are generally suppressed.

The company did what was in the company's interests, however the judge was a federal representative.

Same with Pfizer. Government regulations and law failed in this case. When a company's drive for profit hurts and kills, and fines are the only consequences, there is something wrong with the rules being applied.

When a Chinese mine under dodgy regulations skipped even more safety guards to make profit, killing workers in the process, and only get fined, would you say they are justified in their pursuit of revenue? Would you say the government's half blind eye isn't partially responsible?

Mao was as bad or worse than Imperial Japan. But that doesn't make what he did "genocide." Something can be really really bad and not be genocide. Genocide MEANS trying to murder an entire ethnic group. Having good intentions doesn't make it okay, but it does make it a different thing, just like how manslaughter is different from murder.
