Just sketch real life people, locations and objects, and you will eventually become more confident in drawing these things in your own unique style: not copying someone else's. Learning to draw from anime is a pretty dumb move, because its most likely that the proportions and facial features on the characters are so abstract and sometimes exaggerated, which could lead to ugly pics that you sometime see on the frontpage of Deviantart.

Just draw, draw, draw from from real life. Find a book on human anatomy to give your figures more dimension and structure to them.
