These people are fucking morons. I love how they try to find some sort of brilliant meaning in the original episodes, and how they're condemning the new ones for being exactly the same. Maybe they're pissed at themselves for reading too deeply into the first series. I still think this was a great episode, and the fact that they barely had any music videos speaks volumes about the current MTV generation. I think the grumpy old men analogy doesn't hold water, it's more like Beavis and Butthead from the nineties were transported into 2011.

    >The biggest update has come in which videos Beavis and Butt-Head offer their "This rocks"/"This sucks" commentary on: It's now largely clips from reality shows like Jersey Shore and Cuff'd. This is less because of shifting cultural mores and more because the show is now required to get advance permission to lampoon a music video. "It used to be that we could do anything," Judge says, sighing. "Now we have to clear everything. We were going to do a Kanye West video – he wanted it on, and then somebody who owns, like, six percent of the songwriting said no."

And the second episode didn't even have a single one in there to my recollection. The music video commentary was better than the episodic content, in my opinion. Not all music videos sucked, so it was interesting to see Beavis & Butt-head's perspective on what does and doesn't suck. Hell, most of the time, they weren't even ripping the music videos, they were just pointing out oddities.

    Sure. Feel free.
There's hardly any canon, and really seeing as they're just making fun of the current state of entertainment media it's about as low brow as you can get.
No offense to B&B, I'm just saying no one in the audience really needs a Stephen Hawking IQ to understand. Even if you don't know what they're talking about (current pop culture trends), you'll know what they're getting at about it.

I'd also suggest you avoid drinking or eating while watching as this show can produce unstoppable quantities of humor so intense in relentless waves that substances such as those may produce a choking hazard. I am fucking serious; I was drinking something yesterday and almost kind of died. That's all on me really, but I just thought I'd give you a heads up, cause it can come out of nowhere and sometimes it doesn't stop.

Just showing stuff I hate and don't want to be subjected too and making fun of it with dry, sarcastic humor. I already know I hate it I already know its bad, making fun of it doesn't make me want to watch it with you and you hating it doesn't make me like you. Beavis and Butthead pretty much only went up in quality, because the early episodes are really bad and Mike Judge ended the show before it was allowed to stagnate. King of the Hill wasn't as good later on but it didn't have a quality drop like The Simpsons has.

King of the Hill poked fun at some aspects of popular conservatism, but still overall painted Hank as right on most issues. The Goode Family, on the other hand, was about a bunch of liberals who were only liberal to impress their neighbors and other sad excuses, while they frequently ended up having to give up the charade and resort to measures against their values.

Mike Judge isn't the most conservative guy in the world, but he's clearly somewhat conservative. Less so than South Park, but moreso than The Simpsons.

Hank is a conservative, but its part of his character. There are plenty of characters on the show who are not strictly conservative that are still portrayed as ridiculous villians. Dale, for example, is a great character but is pretty clearly not a strict, traditional conservative.

Unlike South Park, Mike Judge's shows aren't making a point about something, they just put characters into where humor can come from a conflict with their traits and beliefs. You know! STORYTELLING!

Guys, let's steer this thread back to the show.

Like most of you, I was surprised at how funny I found the show. I really was prepared to be disappointed, but it seemed like Mike Judge stood his ground on a lot of issues and it paid off. Hell, even for a half hour show it seemed packed with content, which is refreshing from shows that stretch out one or two jokes over five minutes (or more) like Family Guy.

I even like Beavis and Butthead sitting back and commenting on pop culture shows, because last I checked Ozzie isn't making many new music videos anyway. But two things:

    1. Is it just me, or do Beavis and Butthead seem... smarter when they're watching tv? They're by no means geniuses, but the references and snipes they make feel different than what they did watching rock videos, which were mostly about them commenting on who was hot or who looked weird in the video. They just seem more aware, almost like they have different brains than when they're just trying to get laid.

    2. The ending to Beavis crying seemed a bit dark. I don't know whether to have laughed at that or not, even though the intention was clearly comedy. I think it could have had a better payoff, but that's me.

    Your thoughts?

As far as I know he has the rights to use her in his show but I'm not surprised that he is not totally interested in bringing her back as a major character. She was added to B&B for:

MTV senior vice president and creative director Abby Terkuhle explained that when Beavis and Butt-head "became successful, we ... created Daria's character because we wanted a smart female who could serve as the foil." Terkuhle said that he added Daria "to put [Beavis and Butt-head] in their place."

So it's not like he has a vested interest in the character, it seems like.

I guess I'll just make this one of the shows I watch and don't read /co/'s response on it.

I loved all of it. The music video jokes were the best(this coming from a long time MST3K fan) but I still really enjoyed the actual cartoon. This will be the only show I've watched on MTV in years.

Just the idea of someone not watching a show because there are conservatives in it is as extremist as the psychopath Bible thumping conservatives. It is sickening at the state of the United States where politics dominate every facet of someone's life. It's not even regular politics. It retarded American politics. How could anyone not hate the thought of it?

Yeah, I know they're just cartoon characters, but I can't stand Snooki getting the upper hand on Butthead. Mainly because I can't stand Snooki, period. It doesn't help matters that Kimmel is a tool anyway.

Kimmel has a great show, but he has to play the Hollywood game like anyone else.

But I feel bad when any tv host or reporter has to interview Snooki. They couldn't have imagined that job when they first came into the business.

people who say they dont like beavis and butthead because its "still the same stupid kids" are probably the exact same people who say they dont like family guy because of "all the damn cut scenes". if you dont understand the concept of the show thats your fault.

viacom owns MTV and comedy central

Beavis and Butthead may end up watching an episode of South Park one of these days

I think she's absolutely adorable. Definitely not someone younger girls should be watching, bad influence and all, but yeah. Something about cute, dumb, chubby bimbos is so endearing to me. Granted, I'd never, ever, EVER even touch her given the chance, because she's carrying every venereal disease known to man, but still. The whole hating pop culture just because it's stupid thing has gotten so old to me. Of course pop culture is stupid and there's plenty of room to make fun of it, but I can still enjoy aspects of it without actually becoming engaged in it or embarrassed because I'm pretty secure with myself, and I'm also not retarded. It bothers me when kids run around all "LOL TWILGIHT IS SO GEY AND JERSEY SHORE IS STOOOPID, MAINSTREAM MUSIC SUCKS FUCK DA SYSTEM," they're just as bad if not worse than the people who seriously like the shit. It doesn't make you intelligent, of course anyone with half a brain can see that the cast of Jersey Shore is ridden with whores and jerks, it's not exactly an astute observation to make. Fucking special snowflakes everywhere.

I never understood the hate for Twilight either. I mean, it's probably a bad book at all, but it's not like I'm part of the target audience. Plus, Kristen Stewart is cute.
