Weren't the pyramids built by the citizens? They were forced to work on it and didn't get paid, but in return didn't pay taxes, were sheltered and were fed.

Also the story I heard about the first born dying is because of the praying mentis plague which destroyed the crobs. They carried deseases and basicly poisoned the weed.
In that day of age, the first born were given a dubble portion of food because they had to be strong for the rest of the family.

I'm not him, but sometimes Spielberg's style of filmmaking feels bland. It's good but lacks extremes. I haven't seen all of his films but this is my current impressions.
