Duel Masters was good until the original team stopped dubbing it

Someone enlighten me on what OP is talking about, never seen either dub (or show for that matter)

I'm not an /a/ficionado or anything, but the Shin Chan and Duel Master dubs were actually not that bad. I discovered the Duel Master's dub by accident one day and just started chuckling. They should try gag dubs more often.

I wish I had paid more attention to Duel Masters when it was airing. I love Shin-Chan even though it can get bland sometimes. They put the third season up on Hulu. It was alright.

I thought Shin Chan's dub was funny. It would have been cool if the dub was more faithful but it probably wouldn't have existed if it were. It sucks how none of the fansubbers care about shows like this, Doraemon, Sazae-san, etc. They just care about their gay moe bullshit.

Never seen the Funi dub of Shin-Chan. Only ever seen the first version from 2002 or something (with Kath Soucie as the titular character). I'd love to be able to see it again.

In the past 5 years, the only anime I've watched were Tiger & Bunny, Gundam 00, and Shin Chan (dub). Shin Chan was fucking great.

This is my exact thoughts on the dub as well, because they really do stray very far from the original source material in hilarious ways, but sometimes I wished they kept the actual characters in character.

Ghost Stories was the best gag dub ever.

Love Shin-Chan, love the Lunar games... is Duel Masters worth sitting through what it is to hear the dub? That style of show really isn't my cup of tea normally.

Whoever decided to go in this direction with their dubs, I salute you. Seems like a very bold move to make.

from what I've gathered, there were a lot of Japan-specific jokes in the original that are quite dated and might not make much sense to people who weren't living in Japan at the time

That plus there are a lot of running gags which somewhat disappeared in the dub, for example because of how the principal looked, shinchan would call him kumichou instead of enchou, the former being a "yakuza boss" and the latter being kindergarden teacher.

I saw what I can only assume was a Shin chan plush in a crane game at a Walmart near my place.

From what I remember of the few episodes I watched (really wish I had caught more) it basically threw all of the source material down the drain and just went crazy with meta-jokes and 4-wall breaking and things to that effect. I don't know if I'm describing it in the right way, but I do remember that it was pretty funny.

Ok, that settles it, I'm watching the rest of the DM dub. I never got very far in it, but what I remember from it is it's still pretty funny.

Shame DM kept switching companies, but most of it was still good.

I really enjoy it. I have all the DVDs so far. As far as I'm concerned it's the only way to watch the show; I've watched a bunch of subbed episodes and it's weak shit compared to the dub.

Hell, the casting is way better. Japanese Keroro sounds too cute for such an unsympathetic character.
