When
I was younger, once I got my own room, I was a bit of a slob. Once in a
while my mother would poke in and yell at me to bring my dirty plates
and shit to the kitchen and clean them. And then she'd yell at me some
more as I was cleaning them, saying there might be guests coming over. And
I would go "what's the big deal? I'm doing it now, aren't I? You can
stop yelling. I'm cleaning them very well, I'm doing a good job of it." And
she would reply "the big deal is that you had to be told. You'll never
grow up if you keep needing to be told to do these things. You should
just know to do them yourself."
That's what's going on here.
Greg Weisman came along and started work on a Young Justice League
cartoon, to be composed of sidekicks of the various Justice Leaguers.
And there weren't any that were black.
DC, of course, made one. And maybe they'll make a good job of it.
But
they'll never grow up if they don't learn to do this naturally, if they
only do these things when someone comes along and points out to them
that they HAVEN'T done it, and there's guests coming over. |
