In Toy Story 1, we see young Andy playing out the scene in real life. Woody saves Bo-Peep from "One-Eye'd Bart", played by Mr. Potato Head. During the scene, Slinky Dog is used as a forcefield, and Rex is used as a force-field eating dinosaur.

In Toy Story 3, we see the same scene (with added characters) from the perspective of Andy's imagination. It even contains several lines from the first film. "Money money money!" "...with a built in Force-Field!" "Well I brought my dinosaur! Who EATS force fields!" Etc etc etc.

Did anyone else really like that, during Andy's imagination scene, Jessie yodels to summon Rex?

While Buzz did have a revelation in the first movie, Woody was the only character with real growth. In the first movie, while it is true that he loved Andy, he also cared a little too much about his own standing in Andy's hierarchy, which led to most of the mess in that movie. He was very selfish. But by the end of the third movie, we see how he's rather selfless, opting to do everything in the name of Andy and being there when he needs them, save his friends, save Lotso, and convince Andy to give them all away to Bonnie. He's definitely a very well-written character.
