I've been watching Hey Arnold again for the first time in years, and I have to say I'm nostalging pretty hard. But its not just because this show was a part of my childhood, its because the episodes are all really good and at time heart warming.

There's things in this show that remind me of things that have happened to me in my actual life, issues that almost make me cry sometimes.

And the music, this show has the greatest soundtrack of any cartoon I can think off barring Venture Bros. This show wouldnt be as good as it is if it wasnt for the amazing music in it. That combination of jazz and classical and modern music reminds me of a time I dont think we have anymore. It was that weird bridge between the 90's and 00's where nothing was really changing but at the same time it was.

This is a cartoon that showed kids being kids, and was enjoyable to watch by children and adults alike. I really dont think a cartoon exists today that does what this show did.

    Odd coincidence.

I've been rewatching this the past few days, too. It was a favorite of mine growing up, I love it.

I enjoy watching again now that I'm an adult. There were really some things I couldn't appreciate when I was young, I guess. The voice actors, kids and adults, were all so terrific. Helga's, Grandpa's, Mr. Simmons' all stand out. The characters, too, of course.

The emotional depth of the characters, their differences ... yeah, it's a kid's show, but it really stood out. Well written and just plain fun.

The one thing that makes me sad ... episodes like the one where they band together to save the old tree, the movie where they save the neighborhood... I was one of those kids who really believed that if you stand up for what you believe in, you can make a difference. The silly ideals this show taught me mean a lot to me. That even kids could change things.

Now I'm an adult, one of those kids who believed that, and I know better. 'cuz it doesn't matter. The second movie for this series that was going to wrap it all up has been discarded, for years, without me even knowing of it 'till recently.

And there's nothing anyone can do about it.

    Oh well.

The show will always have my heart.

    > Peanuts: Nothing but Christian moral messages crammed down our throats. in sterile, drab, depressing situations with bland, one-dimensional characters (if that).

    > Hey Arnold: Strong moral messages delivered in a fun, comedic, light-hearted way through a colorful, interesting setting with characters you genuinely learned to love and relate to.

As someone who only saw like 2 episodes of this show as a kid (we didn't get Nickelodeon, shut the hell up) - why does it have such a religious following? I mean, I get that it's a funny cartoon about kids in the inner city, but then people talk about it with a weird sort of reverence that goes beyond "Yeah man, I remember that too, it was awesome". I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely curious - what makes it any different from other "kids just hanging out" cartoons from the same era like Doug or Recess or The Weekenders?

Well, to answer your question ... it was really good?

People do talk about Recess the same way. I was not a fan of that, but, I can recognize it was a good show. It has its loyal fans, too.

Doug, on the other hand, while some people like and remember fondly ... it was a bad show. It really wasn't as good as Recess or HA!, so, the following is not there.

References to nematoad calls are still ok in my book, though.

I loved Hey Arnold! and watched it again when ArnieLila was uploading them on YouTube. The show hits home on so many episodes, and was able to incite emotions in me that a cartoon hasn't done in years. Maybe that comes with growing up, but damn if it still didn't when I saw it recently.

If it had come to Bartlett's intended closure, it would've made it even better.

Coincidentally, I did that when I was gonna get my ass kicked in a bar fight. The guy was several times bigger than me and I knew I was gonna get my ass kicked hard so I went hardcore crazy, got a beer bottle, broke it, and cut my arm with it. It was a stupid thing to do, but the guy backed off.

The show ended production in 2001; for some reason it took Nick three more years to air the final episode, which production wise wasn't the final episode at all.

It's been almost a decade since this show ended right? Well, 8 years at least ... maybe 9?

    >Would a lot of folks want to watch? How would they do it? What about the voice actors? Most were kids right? Would they be able to find new ones?

I really think the ship has sailed. The fandom all but dried up by 2009. All getting too old to really care anymore, I guess. I used to be a huge fan, back when HA! was still more of a current show, not a oldschool Nicktoon to wax nostalgic on. Nick isn't looking for shows like Hey Arnold! anymore, times have changed, kids have changed. It was a good concept in the 90s when it happened, it had its time. Re-casting would be a nightmare, you would have to re-cast everyone, maybe even Helga...and you can replace a character like hers with someone else. Fran Smith added alot to her character.

Craig is still sitting on the scripts for the movie, still does not want to give anything away. I wish sometime he would.

While I agree with you on the "ship is sailed" point, I have to disagree with the idea that kids have changed. Kids are kids, and will always be kids, the only things that have changed are the shows, and the parents. Unfortunately, parents are pretty shitty nowadays, and let media raise their children. I think that if more shows like Hey Arnold! were on, kids would still love them now even more than we did back then. Too bad all they have today are shitty generic action shows that never change and the live action shit Disney spews forth.
